What is the purpose of the role?

This role is accountable to the Head of Commercial Strategy and Insight for the execution of our organisational commercial strategy on behalf of the Commercial and Procurement Director; driving the evolution and delivery of our commercial strategy agreed by the Executive Team and transforming the costs of our business.

What makes this role unique?

As part of the Commercial team you will have significant engagement with Senior Executives and Directors and be the interface between other organisations and Thames Water to ensure that we are learning from others and bringing new ideas and innovation into our approaches. You will be a significant part of the key decisions to determine how we ensure the best value out of the c.1.7bn we spend annually with our current and future supply chain. You will have the opportunity to develop specific strategic initiatives from conception to benefit delivery.

What will this role involve?

You will be responsible for further development of our commercial strategy. The commercial change programme is forecast to deliver significant benefit and impact multiple existing contracts, processes, systems and data across all areas with £multi-million spend. As part of the commercial strategy there will be a significant level of transformational change required to enable the benefit to be delivered. This role will be critical in designing and supporting these operating model changes. You will be required to document our supply chain strategy driving a documented approach for how we set up and manage our supply partners within our wider operating model. You will ensure consistency of approach across Thames Water commercial and supply chain architecture whilst identifying opportunities to share risks and opportunities across major contracts and commercial approaches. You will stay close to the market to identify future opportunities to refine our commercial approach and be accountable to the Commercial and Procurement Director on current and potential future innovation-led commercial opportunities.

What are we looking for?

Experience of developing strategy from conception to documented and approved output.

Experience of developing strategic projects from conception to documented and benefit realisation.

Excellent proven commercial and contractual acumen.

Experience of leading cross-business and multi-disciplinary teams.

Clear understanding of how Thames Water, or other large utility organisation, works with a developed and active internal and external network Experience in enabling effective decision making at an.

Executive and Board level with proven strong communication skills and customer service ethic.

Track record in continuous improvement and ability to deliver against stretching targets.

Firm understanding and experience of operating the Utilities Contract Regulations 2016.

Degree level education, or equivalent work experience, in a relevant field.

The role is based at our offices in Reading offering a salary of £59,000 to £65,000 dependent upon experience.
