What is the purpose of the role?

The role of this site based process operative is to perform a range of activities to ensure that all equipment associated with our sludge powered generator is running safely and efficiently and to assist the control team with their technical duties. Responsibilities include cleaning machines, sample testing, routine checks, maintenance and problem solving. Please note, you will be part of a shift pattern.

What will this role involve?

This role will involve, but not be limited to:

Monitoring and inspecting equipment, e.g. lifting and unblocking pumps, following a checklist to carry out planned preventative maintenance, ensuring equipment / generators / telemetry are working by doing a test run

Undertaking basic maintenance of plant/equipment and strict attention to cleaning of site

Reporting any defective equipment, to ensure a swift resolution following any breakdowns

Highlighting, and resolving where possible, any health and safety hazards and risks on site

Making sure work area is safe before commencing any work by undertaking a point of work risk assessment

Having an awareness of budget position and how unplanned events can impact on the budget (e.g. tanker/plant/pump hire, etc.)

Appreciating the impact of chemical usage on site budget and business objectives

Additional workload will include involvement in planned outages

What are we looking for?

Do you have experience in a relevant industry with industrial experience or similar experience working in an outside, manual role? We are looking for someone who wants to get stuck in and with a proactive approach.

Previous leadership experience and experience working in an industry or with industrial experience is desirable.

You will need to have basic literacy, numeracy and computer skills and must be prepared to be trained in safety procedures including confined space entry.

Thames Water information and salary details

This role is based at Beckton sewage treatment works in Barking, East London. We are offering a salary of between 21k - 27.5k plus an additional shift allowance of 25%, depending on skills and experience.

A valid UK driving licence is desirable and flexible working and an ability to cover absence of any kind is essential.
