What is the purpose of the role?

Take ownership of a large/complex deliverable or full project work stream from planning, including staff requirements through to completion with minimal supervisory review. Communicate status, escalating risks or issues if and where necessary along with suggested mitigating actions where possible. Define and complete the project deliverables to high quality standard meeting business expectations whilst demonstrating the ability to develop a simple business case to support the case for change and understand the financial governance processes for a designated work stream. Be able to effectively facilitate workshops and group working sessions, constructively challenging views and decisions to ensure productivity. Be able to overcome obstacles and solicit input from and support of senior stakeholders where necessary.

Thames Water provides the essential service at the heart of daily life, health and enjoyment to 15 million customers across London and the Thames Valley. Our new CEO joined the company in September 2016 and initiated a comprehensive transformation program that aims to drive Thames Waters performance into the top quartile of water utility performers. We have already driven a 28% reduction in lost time injuries and a 23% reduction in complaints. But this is just the beginning and we need more passionate, experienced project managers like you to help us achieve this goal. We are also improving the end to end customer experience from developing website self-service through to innovative ways of fixing leaks beneath the streets of the world's third busiest city. You will also be in the unique position of helping shape and establish a growing transformation and change capability within Thames Water.

What will this role involve?

You will build rapport and working relationships with varying people throughout the business including heads of, programme and project managers through to front line staff.

You will also be tasked with defining best practices for programme delivery and maintaining a single portfolio view of in-flight and pipeline (demand) initiatives whilst ensuring adherence to governance.

Your main accountabilities will include the following: Fully understand the business requirements and translate these clearly into the project definition, gaining clear buy-in from the project sponsor(s).

Where no clear requirements or mandate exist, demonstrate the ability to complete; with support, a thorough investigation using data, analysis and SME engagement to build a compelling business case that clearly articulates the issues identified and the assessed options to resolve, putting forward a proposal or preferred option(s).

Plan initiatives and ensure resources, cost, risks, issues, assumptions & dependencies are fully identified, including an assessment of all potential benefit and dis-benefits.

Work closely with business leads to deliver projects to agreed cost, time, and scope & quality parameters.

Ensuring ability to measure success is in place.

Build and maintain a network of cross functional relationships in order to facilitate SME and stakeholder management and increase the chances of project success.

Provide updates, reports and stage gate reviews inputs with support as defined in the governance model and agreed within individual projects.

Ensure we become a learning and data led organisation by carrying our post implementation reviews and contributing to the continuous improvement of project management methodology.

Participate in the change & transformation management community in TW, sharing thinking & good practice in order to support the continued development of the TW change capability


What are we looking for?

We are looking for a project delivery candidate, with a degree or professional qualification, experienced in working within a project framework and with an understanding of DMAIC methodology being advantageous but not essential. If you have a solid understanding of project management methodologies and best practice and demonstrable leadership skills with proven commercial & business acumen, you are an analytical thinker with strong attention to detail and have the ability to learn new subject matter quickly this could be the perfect role for you. You will need to be confident in your ability to communicate complex issues to a wide audience, have excellent written and verbal communication skills and a practical understanding of change management methodology. Thames Water information and salary details

This role is based in Reading. We are offering a salary of 40,000.00, dependant upon skills and experience.
