What is the purpose of the role?
We are currently seeking a mobile technician to ensure that all electrical and mechanical equipment associated with our water treatment works are running safely and efficiently using both proactive and reactive maintenance methods. You will need to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair as appropriate, electrical and mechanical equipment. Working within the maintenance team you will follow robust maintenance plan as well as getting involved in minor installation projects, fault finding and emergency breakdown repairs to ensure our plant operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. You will cover around 30 sites across South East London.

What will this role involve?
This role will be working in a multi discipline team, with the following responsibilities:
You will carry out electrical or mechanical installation work at a variety of industrial / construction locations involving a number of different processes.
You will carry out inspection and testing work of installations to check compliance with current standards and regulations.
You will carry out maintenance and fault finding complying with current standards and regulations.
You will provide specialist technical advice where appropriate with up to date technical knowledge, and provide training support for technical trainees.
You will comply with the health and safety at work regulations and our health and safety guidelines.
Examples of equipment you will be working on will be: 3 phase motors, starters and controls, Electronic control systems such as VSD’s, Automatic valves and penstocks, Flow, level and pressure measurement, Programmable logic controllers, variable speed drives and controls, Chemical handling and dosing equipment
What are we looking for?
We are looking for someone with a BTEC HNC in a combined mechanical and electrical subject or equivalent. If you have a C&G in mechanical engineering following an indentured apprenticeship in mechanical engineering, plus C&G electrical engineering (either installation or testing and certification), then you would be an ideal candidate for this role. Alternatively, an NVQ level 3 in mechanical / electrical engineering. 17th Edition would be ideal. You need the ability to work with minimum supervision, under your own initiative to design and standards. Having knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues relevant to the industry is also key. Valid driving licence is a must as the role involves travel.
Thames Water information and salary details
This mobile role is based out of Waddon water treatment works but will require travel to around 30 sites. We are offering a salary of up to £39,215 depending on experience and qualifications. Participation in a 24/7 Out of Hours Standby rota may be required after a suitable period of training and assessment, for which you will receive an additional payment. All necessary equipment such as vehicle and tools are provided. Please note, working hours will be approx. 07:30 - 15:30
