What is the purpose of the role?
To ensure that the strategic trunk main water network is being managed and operated in an optimal way every day. Trunk main risks are identified and mitigations put in place and support capital funding where required. This will also have involvement and responsibility for resolving trunk main anomalies, developing new operating strategies for the hydraulic system. You will also be responsible for managing the Strategic flushing programme, as part of TW's DOMS (distribution operations maintenance strategy) under the DWI commitment.
What makes this role unique?
The strategic system optimisation manager is a technical management position. You will play a vital role in ensuring that the strategic trunk main water network is being managed and operated in an optimal way on a day to day basis, right from production sites through to the Zones. You will report into the system optimisation manager and will also be involved with one of the largest assets within the business in the form of ring main (TWRM).
What will this role involve?
The successful candidate will play a vital role ensuring that the strategic trunk main water network is being managed and operated in an optimal way on a day to day basis. You will be responsible for identifying risks and making sure mitigations are put in place and sponsoring capital funding where required. The successful candidate will have a team of technical engineers and analysts, as well as 2 technicians working in the field on TWRM sites. The role will involve extensive liaison with internal stakeholders, including IA's trunk main leakage team, Eight2O, system operations, production, etc.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for a strategic thinker, you will be responsible for ensuring all water processed by the business is available to customers and continuous process improvements are being sought & implemented.
We are also looking for someone resilient and dynamic under pressure as this is a front line post, where you will respond to events as they happen on the water network in-hours or part of the out of hours roster.
Being analytical and technically focused is also advantageous as you will make decisions on capital expenditure, look at the risks and balance against cost.
You must be an effective presenter and communicator, who can lead stakeholder management across functions.
Although working with a small direct team, the successful candidate will have multiple internal stakeholders and will need to effectively communicate to all.
Having good knowledge of corporate systems and a good understanding of hydraulics is essential.
It's valuable that you will have extensive clean water networks experience, including the strategic network and production facilities as this is a fundamental part of the role.
You will also have a proven understanding of the regulatory and legislation aspects of the water industry.
Knowledge of asset management and capital delivery is highly desirable.
A full clean driving license with your own car is essential for this role, as the role will involve travel across the TW region for meetings.
Thames Water information and salary details
This role is based out of Epsom water treatment works but will involve travelling so a valid UK driving license and your own vehicle is essential for the role. We are offering a salary of up to £50,000 depending on experience.
