What is the purpose of the role?

The purpose of this role is to lead and develop a team of water quality technicians (WQTs) in order to deliver sampling and water quality investigation requirements across a defined geographical area. In addition to managing a team, the role involves working closely with colleagues and stakeholders within the wider Scientific Services team and other areas of Water Supply.

What will this role involve?

Your main responsibilities will be managing a team of WQTs to ensure compliance with statutory and operational sampling requirements, closely managing individual performance to ensure that rigorous quality requirements are adhered to at all times.


Key activities will include: Managing individual's time effectively to allow maximum performance efficiency whilst ensuring continual development of the team.

Conducting regular technical audits of team activities to ensure adherence to externally-accredited quality requirements.

Working closely with internal stakeholders in scientific services and production to ensure that sampling requirements are successfully achieved on a daily basis.

Taking responsibility for the health, safety and wellbeing of the team including management of LOAD responsibilities, organisation of training requirements, and promoting excellent working practices.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for someone with significant relevant industry experience with a strong understanding of water quality issues. The ability to lead and develop people within a team as well as good communication and interpersonal skills are essential. This is a demanding and wide-ranging role and therefore excellent organisational skills and personal resilience are a must. Strong IT skills are preferable, including familiarity with company IT systems (including SAP, Sample Manager, Microsoft Office package).

Thames Water information and salary details

This role is based at Fobney water treatment works but will also cover depots in Guildford and Marlow and is offering a salary between 29,000 and 39,000 depending on experience. You will also require a full UK driving license.
