What is the purpose of the role?
We are currently recruiting for an experience Enabling Platform Architect to join our Integration & Services team. The Enabling Platform Architect for Integration and Services will own the definition, governance and roadmap for the integrations and service technology framework used by Thames Water for all Information Technology systems. They are the expert for the evolution of our infrastructure to include next Service Bus technologies with an API landscape view – with a focus on moving to an as-a-service and asset-less future. This future view will include the business and technology benefits for greater use of integration bus and API functionality.

This role is the overall owner of the underlying technologies and relationships that underpin our future, including the technical relationship with suppliers. They will assist in sourcing decisions and the rationalisation of the existing solutions along with working on strategic supplier management to drive down the TCO. The Enabling Platform Architect works across multiple business areas, programmes and projects to ensure the correct solutions are utilised and exploited. What will this role involve?
Managing the technology roadmap and reference architectures for the future integration bus and API Infrastructure for the business.
Identify opportunities and drive the reduction of TCO across the existing infrastructure and hosting relationships.
Defining and governing capacity and financial forecasts across for Base Case initiatives to ensure long term financial planning aligns with the technology roadmaps.
Informing and influencing technical decisions made at governance boards and design authorities.
Performing Architecture Impact Assessments, to help size and shape ideas and initiatives at an early stage.
Ensure roadmaps provide at least N-1, or specified levels of software / hardware versions.
Assure throughout the project delivery lifecycle that individual solutions are fit for purpose in their application of technology and align with the overall strategy.
Contribute to the definition of Architecture Principles and Policies.
Define Standards and Patterns applicable to the domain.
Being the technical owner by being the expert for the evolution of Integration and Services infrastructure and process.
Managing the architectural relationship with agreed suppliers and provide guidance on the technical direction.
Supporting in service reviews by providing points of view on specific topics.
Collaborate with other Platform Architects to ensure the overall integrity of roadmaps.
Understand industry best practice and engage with strategic partners to align capabilities and influence product roadmaps.
Mentoring and supporting other members of the CTO organisation and the wider architecture community.
What are we looking for?
We are keen to see candidates who are ideally be educated to degree level, BSc or equivalent. You will have excellent interpersonal skills and be fully experienced at dealing with stakeholders. You will have significant experience as a Technical, Product, Solution Architect or System Design Authority and you will be a confident communicator with an ability to explain complex problems in a simple and effective manner. Prior experience of working with 3rd party delivery partners and experience in building Digital environments is advantageous. Strong knowledge of architecture methodologies, principles and frameworks, ideally TOGAF is preferable. Previous experience in platform architecture for infrastructure and hosting and practical experience of defining technology roadmaps is essential. You will have experience in micro services, micro services architecture, integration IBM integration, SAP, ESP. Candidates with previous experience within the utility industry or large, complex enterprise or different IT delivery approaches (waterfall, agile, lean) are of interest.
Thames Water information and salary details
This role is offering a salary of circa of £56,000 to £75,000 dependant on experience and will be based at our offices in Reading. On top of our competitive salary package, you will also receive a competitive bonus, car allowance, private healthcare and an industry leading pension scheme. We also offer 2 paid volunteering days per year.
