What is the purpose of the role?
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Enabling Platform Architect to join our EUC and Collaboration team in our Strategy and Architecture team within Thames Water IT. You will own the definition, governance and roadmap for the underlying infrastructure and platforms used by Thames Water for End User Computing and Collaboration. You are the expert for the evolution of our infrastructure and user experience to next generation platforms and hosting arrangements – with a focus on moving to an as-a-service and asset-less future. Your responsibility will include changes to the workplace and also field force systems and solutions – including device selection and management. You will create the future view and evangelising the benefits driven by the future architecture. You will have experience of the full suite of EUC and Collaboration technologies including the Microsoft suite (Office 365, Sharepoint, Teams etc) as well as leading competitive products.
What makes this role unique?
The Enabling Platform Architect for EUC & Collaboration is the overall owner of the underlying technologies and relationships that underpin our future, including the technical relationship with suppliers. You will assist in outsourcing decisions and the rationalisation of the existing solutions along with working on strategic supplier management to drive down the TCO. You will work across multiple business areas, programmes and projects to ensure the correct solutions are utilised and exploited.
What will this role involve?
You will define the Technology Roadmap and Reference Architectures for End User Computing and Collaboration Infrastructure and Hosting plans.
Identify opportunities and drive the reduction of TCO across the existing Infrastructure and Hosting relationships.
Define and govern capacity and financial forecasts across for Base Case initiatives to ensure long term financial planning aligns with the technology roadmaps.
You will inform and influence technical decisions made at governance boards and design authorities.
Perform Architecture Impact Assessments, to help size and shape ideas and initiatives at an early stage.
Ensure roadmaps provide at least N-1, or specified levels of software / hardware versions.
Assure throughout the project delivery lifecycle that individual solutions are fit for purpose in their application of technology and align with the overall strategy.
Expert for the evolution of EUC and Collaboration solutions.
Manages the architectural relationship with agreed suppliers and provide guidance on the technical direction.
Attend service reviews and provide points of view on specific topics.
Demonstrate thought leadership on specific topics and promote knowledge sharing across the architecture community.
Collaborate with other Platform Architects to ensure the overall integrity of roadmaps.
Understand industry best practice and engage with strategic partners to align capabilities and influence product roadmaps.
You will be mentoring and supporting other members of the CTO organisation and the wider architecture community.
What are we looking for?
We are keen to see candidates who are ideally educated to degree level, BSc or equivalent. You will have excellent interpersonal skills and be fully experienced at dealing with stakeholders. You will have significant experience as a Technical, Product, Solution Architect or System Design Authority and you will be a confident communicator with an ability to explain complex problems in a simple and effective manner. Prior experience of working with 3rd party delivery partners and experience in building Digital environments is advantageous. Strong knowledge of architecture methodologies, principles and frameworks, ideally TOGAF is preferable. Previous experience in platform architecture for infrastructure and hosting and practical experience of defining technology roadmaps is essential. Your previous experience maybe within the utility industry or large, complex enterprise or different IT delivery approaches (waterfall, agile, lean…) are of interest.
Thames Water information and salary details
This role is offering a salary of circa £56,000 to £75,000 dependant on your experience and will be based at our offices in Reading. On top of our competitive salary package, you will also receive a competitive bonus, car allowance, private healthcare and an industry leading pension scheme. We also offer 2 paid volunteering days per year.
