What is the purpose of the role?

Thames Water carries out 15,000 new water connections and over 90kms of new water main installations every year just to satisfy the increasing demand for water from new developments. There have recently been changes to the way in which we charge our developer services customers and as the cost and planning manager, you will be responsible for leading the cost, income and reporting for service connections, providing analysis and insight to inform business decision making. Managing one team member, you will ensure that out charging and reporting is consistent with regulatory obligations as well as ensuring that our internal systems are data rich and accurate, introducing new ways of working and reporting tools as necessary.

You will have the autonomy to drive this critical business area forwards, introducing more efficient ways of working and ensuring our customer cost data is reported on accurately. You will gain a wealth of exposure to the water industry, learning about any regulatory cost changes and communicating this out to the organisation through reports and its’ joint venture partners within the Infrastructure Alliance (IA). The IA was formed in April 2015, which is a partnership between Thames Water, Kier, Clancy Docwra, Morrison and Murphy which is envisioned to deliver on our customer promises, working in more efficient and effective way.

What will this role involve?

Working in partnership with another cost and planning manager, you will be accountable for:

Tracking of cross-boundary service connections (Water and waste), and will necessitate liaison with Water and Wastewater companies that Thames share boundaries with, to insure water connections outside our waste water service area are reported to the relevant sewerage undertaker and that we receive information of connections to our sewerage network outside of our water supply area.

Ensuring that our connections charging and reporting is consistent with regulatory, statutory and competition obligations.

Oversee payments to contractors for connections including monitoring of variations.

Review and have a clear understanding of existing connections as well as future plans in order to feed back to the business.

Lead the cost, income and volume reporting and forecasting for service connections.

Provide analysis and insight (including identification of trends) relating to connections activity.

Work with colleagues and contractors to improve the quality of data in SAP.

Resolution of high level customer queries on charges relating to their development work.

Work in collaboration with the Finance team to ensure accurate reporting and production of budgets, actuals and variances.

What are we looking for?

You will have a strong numerate background preferably with experience of working with budgets or forecasts. You will have worked with a range of internal and external stakeholders, at all levels of seniority and will be confident analysing information to make recommendations that will influence business direction. Ideally experience within the Water industry or regulatory environment, would be advantageous however by no means essential. Previous management experience would also be beneficial. Due to the nature of the role, travel to Oxfordshire and London will be required so you must have a full UK driving licence.

Thames Water information and salary details

This role is paying a salary of up to 45,000 and will be based from Clearwater Court in Reading.
