What is the purpose of the role?
Reporting into the data value manager, this role is responsible for working with a range of data analysts and data scientists, to present the vast amount of data and information we collect in an engaging and interesting way. We are collecting upwards of 6 million data points per day and it is key that stakeholders and project owners can make sense of and action this resource. This can take the form of dashboarding techniques and infographics to advanced 3D modelling and mapping of the data. You will be expected to push the boundaries of presentation technology and thinking creatively is essential. This is not a reporting role, the objective needs to be to “make our data sing”. As we continue to roll out smart metering and acoustic loggers over the next ten years this will continue to grow as the leading programme of its type in the world. As part of a new team this is an opportunity to apply expertise in data presentation in order to support decision makers and fulfil specific business requirements.

You will be creating the face of our data. Shaping how the company, industry and customers interact with our data. You will be faced with different challenges on a daily basis and will gain exposure to a range of internal and external stakeholders.
What will this role involve?
As the creative visualiser in the team, you will be responsible for:
Presenting the metering data in new ways that can tell a story of our work.
Take outputs from the data analyst and data scientist and transform them into visually engaging tools.
Transform requirements from key stakeholders into final deliverables.
Work with a combination of our existing dashboard system as well as push for new technologies and tools.
Work with the Data Analyst and Data scientist to provide more insight into the meter data.
Work in collaboration with a range of departments including analysts, marketing and the senior leadership team to develop such collateral.
Develop a range of creative and striking visuals such as infographics, interactive maps, 3D networks, videos, animations and much more.
What are we looking for?
To be considered for this role, we are looking for someone who has a wealth of experience in a similar role, converting large data sets into engaging content for internal and external stakeholders. You will have gained experience with Tableau, PowerBI, Qlik and other creative programmes and will also be comfortable reviewing a high volume of data. You will be confident presenting and making recommendations on findings and will be creative in your approach. Previous design knowledge would be required in order to succeed in this role. You will have strong communication skills and will be naturally inquisitive with the ability to work in an ever changing environment. You will be comfortable liaising with colleagues and departments across the entirety of the organisation as well as externally. The ideal candidate will be confident using new IT systems and you must be an experienced Microsoft Excel user.
Thames Water information and salary details
This role which can be based out of either Clearwater Court in Reading or Bulman Court in Langley, and is offering a salary of circa £40,000 depending on skills and experience. Due to the nature of the role, some travel to either of these sites will be required.
