What is the purpose of the role?
You will be working as a Quantity surveyor forming part of the group commercial team, at the UKs largest water company. We currently assure a variety of different contracts, including our alliances. In this role you will primarily provide commercial support to the infrastructure alliance. You will be responsible for all the commercial aspects of the contracts that are allocated to you by the Principal quantity surveyor. The QS team also provide commercial support for a wide variety of other projects so there is more than enough diversity of work in the portfolio to entertain an enthusiastic Quantity surveyor.

The team has a very successful APC and CPD training programme, with a support network of a number of Chartered quantity surveyors, RICS APC Assessors as well as colleagues studying to become MRICS.
What will this role involve?
Annual auditing and final accounting, estimating and cost forecasting.
Assessing applications for payment and ensuring that they are made on time and in accordance with the various forms of Contracts.
Agreeing target costs for work and carrying out rate reviews to establish value for money.
Ensuring that appropriate processes are in place and monitored on your portfolio of contracts to ensure that contractual compliance is maintained and any non-performance of the contract is identified and corrective actions implemented as necessary.
Assisting the contract managers with the implementation of robust commercial processes with their third party suppliers and providing them with commercial support as and when required.
Resolving general disputes and claims as well as providing commercial advice and support to the business.
Providing commercial advice and guidance to other team members as required.
Supporting the wider commercial team procurement exercises.
What are we looking for?
This role requires someone who can take ownership of tasks, think on their feet, devise plans of action and delivers effective solutions. You must be able to work autonomously and be confident as well as professional at all times. It is essential that you are inquisitive and have a meticulous attention to detail. To be successful in this role you will need to be a team-player. You should have the ability to hold your ground and offer reasoned advice in a fast-paced environment. A degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent is required for this role. Knowledge of information technology, the water industry and its regulatory frameworks is preferable. Dedication, enthusiasm and a willingness to learn and develop is also fundamental to success within this role.
Thames Water information and salary details
This role is based out of Clearwater Court in Reading, offering a salary up to £40,000 depending upon experience. There are a range of benefits including an excellent contributory pension scheme, season ticket loans and paid volunteering days. You will need a valid UK Driving licence as this role will involve travelling to different offices and sites.
