What is the purpose of the role?
The purpose of this role will be to provide excellent customer service to our customers by undertaking operational tasks, resolving customer issues and carrying out network valve activities with the least disruption to supplies. Network service technicians are also required to support capital delivery and operations project work, either on a full or part time basis and to support ongoing leakage delivery activities.
What makes this role unique?
This is a varied role where you will be meeting different people and organisations on a daily basis. This will entail dealing with a variety of issues from the small scale to the complex. This role is particularly interesting as you will be getting involved with a varied range of projects and will also be working within the Infrastructure Alliance which was formed in April 2015 and is a partnership between Thames Water, Kier, Clancy Docwra, Morrison and Murphy. It is a ground breaking time for the water industry and means working in different ways, more efficiently and with more emphasis on keeping our customer promises.
What will this role involve?
You will be required to carry out various network operations in the field in order to progress jobs to completion in an efficient manner – giving the best service to all stakeholders involved – contractors and customers alike.
Key areas of responsibility will include:
Operation of the mains network, including controlling burst mains, ensuring isolation of mains to facilitate planned work, emergency repairs and maintenance. Personal ownership of customer issues, responding to queries & complaints, resolving issues.
Ensure water quality compliance during repairs. Act as local network expert for isolation and rezoning providing information for risk assessments & sharing information regarding network risks and other health & safety issues.
Responsible for investigating the clean water network to resolve poor asset performance, including high or low pressure, leakage, metering queries and loss of supply.
Working in compliance with our procedures including AM standards, health & safety and streetworks legislation.
What are we looking for?
Our customers are at the heart of everything we do so previous customer service experience within a constantly changing environment is essential. We are looking for someone that has experience of working within an operational/network role, ideally with strong working knowledge of water industry procedures; this will include safety, health & wellbeing and street works. Our ideal candidate will have knowledge of domestic plumbing, water mains and leakage detection however field experience in any other industry is also considered. Alongside this, a new road and street works certificate and water industry qualifications in operating water networks or an equivalent qualification is preferential but not essential. As the role involves driving to multiple sites, you must be a confident driver, as well as holding a full, UK driving licence.
Thames Water information and salary details
This role offers a salary from £22,440 and is based from any of our sites in the Eastern North London area where you will be covering; Woodford, Sewardstone, Crouch Hill and Finsbury. You will be expected to travel around your geographical area and you will also receive a generous Standby Allowance.
