What is the purpose of the role?
The Chief IT Delivery Officer reports directly to the Chief Digital Officer (CDO) and is part of the IT senior leadership team with responsibility for owning and driving the strategic integrated delivery roadmap for IT, in close liaison with their business unit Chief Information Officers, Chief IT Operations Officer and Chief Architect peers.
What makes this role unique?
The IT advancement and strengthening of an eight quarter roadmap, providing full control of up to 50 IT projects under an 8/9 point programmatic thrust project. This forward looking role will bridge the inter-dependencies of a sizable portfolio of work being delivered by a team of 60 - 70 skilled IT resources based both on and off- shore. Budget response all Capex £100m (£60m - £100m).
What will this role involve?
Leadership – creates, motivates, inspires the Thames Water Digital Delivery team, that creates a strong culture of successful business/digital delivery across Thames. Commands exceptional thought leadership on IT with the ability to work with senior business and technology leaders to effect change across the company.
Programme Delivery directorship – owns the delivery of all of Group programmes (HR, Finance, Procurement, IT for IT) as the ‘Corporate BU CIO’, working with business leaders to oversee business focussed solutions, acting as a critical point of contact and escalation for any issues for these board level corporate stakeholders.
Portfolio Office directorship and IT delivery roadmap - has overall accountability for the entire IT portfolio of programmes and projects across the business (circa £100m capex), interrogating and providing insights for key stakeholders including board updates. Linked to this accountable for driving the forward 8-Quarter delivery roadmap including ensuring robust executive challenge to ensure it is continually fit-for-purpose.
Resourcing – accountable for all IT delivery resources within Thames Water – PMs, BAs, SAs, Scrum Masters, developers. Owns the process and people delivery roadmap ensuring sufficient resources with the right technical expertise are deployed in the right ways to deliver demanding projects and programmes. Also ensures appropriate people management processes are in place e.g., career pathing, mentorship, resource allocation etc.
What are we looking for?
Substantial experience in driving a high performing portfolio management office with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to mobilise teams to respond to demanding deadlines and competing pressures. Proven hands-on experience of leading multiple and significant change programmes with multiple interdependencies across a complex multi-vendor IT estate. Proven board level senior stakeholder leverage experience and influencer in a diverse business environment. Track record of results in a hands-on, complex, multi-supplier environment undergoing significant transformation. Commercially savvy with demonstrable experience in making balanced business and financial decisions considering contractual, operational and customer needs with an absolute focus on delivering the best customer and end user experience. Experienced in different delivery methodologies e.g. Agile to deliver digital transformation and next generation technology excellence.
Thames Water information and salary details
This senior manager role will be based in Clearwater Court, Reading. We are offering a generous salary and with additional benefits which include a yearly bonus of up to 50%, 18% pension along with a car allowance and a wider benefits scheme.
