What is the purpose of the role?

The successful candidate will have previous inventory experience as well as a valid UK driving licence although a HGV/LGV or a class 2 licence would be preferable as there are driving duties associated with this role. You will work as part of the Inventory Operations and Supply Management team who are the custodians of mobile equipment and critical stock held at our distribution centres and business resilience hubs. As part of the Inventory Operations and Supply Management team you will be required to safe custody and real time visibility of our stock holdings and provide first class professional delivery and collection service across all Thames Water & Alliance locations of critical stock and equipment in order to support the operational teams when facing customer/operational incidences.

What will this role involve?

As an Inventory Operative / Driver you will be:

Using the stock system, ensure that inventory levels in the distribution centres reflect real time holdings to ensure that system matches physical holdings.

Maintain the inventory levels at our network of always ready hubs, flood resilience locations and future strategic hubs within the catchment of the parent distribution centre to underpin the Company’s commitment to our customers in that we are always ready.

Comply with stock management principles and governance. Undertake deliveries and collections across the Thames Water estate in line with service levels.

Maintain the fleet of mobile assets and ancillaries to ensure that these are ready to go to meet operational orders and event support.

Comply with all relevant legislation and agreed procedures to ensure a safe and legal working environment and consistent quality standards.

Maintain a safe and efficient handling of vehicle in all respects, including the optimisation of fuel usage, cleanliness of vehicle.

Be responsible for the security of the vehicle & load at all times.

Ensure that all delivery and returns procedures are followed in line with Company and Customer guidelines.

Ensure all Company equipment is maintained, utilised and returned as required within operational processes to the transport office/depot daily.

Report vehicle defects and ensure that the defect is documented.

Comply with Driver’s regulations & Working Time Directive in line with the O license legalisation and Company procedures.

In addition to these duties, you may be required to undertake other duties in line with the needs of the business for example maintenance of mobile assets and clean & waste tanker driving activities, where appropriate training will be provided.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for someone who ideally holds a class 2 licence and a valid driver qualification card. We will consider candidates who may hold a 7.5tonne license and potentially offer training to get our class 2 license. You will be an experienced driver also with warehouse and inventory management experience. You will understand transport legislation and the European Working Time Directive as well as having knowledge of warehouse & inventory management systems. A fork lift truck license would be desirable. You will have excellent communication skills and be confident in liasing with internal and external customer. You will also have a good level of numeracy as well as a basic knowledge Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

Thames Water information and salary details

This is role based at Slough, Berkshire and is offering a salary of between 19,500 and 26,400 per annum dependant on experience. The working hours are 36 hours a week between the hours of 6am to 6pm, Monday to Friday. Paid overtime will be available during events where we are required to support.
