What is the purpose of the role?
Reporting to the site manager you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the largest clean water treatment works in Europe, producing up to 700 million litres of water per day that supplies a third of London’s drinking water. You will be working as part of a team of 12 process controllers, to ensure the effective and continuous operation of the works 24 hours a day. This is a two-man shift-point with the process control technician providing a supporting role to the process controller.
What makes this role unique?
You will be responsible for monitoring and optimising the process of the water treatment works to maintain output and water quality. You will be required to react to any Wonderware and SCADA trends and alarms, finding and resolving faults in conjunction with the operations and maintenance teams. With the members of your team you will be on shift rota and be responsible for manning and controlling the works 24 hours a day, making key decisions on the process.
What will this role involve?
This role will involve controlling the day-to-day operation of the works processes, including but not limited to rapid gravity filters, ozonation, slow sand filters, disinfection and washwater treatment
The successful candidate would be responsible for operating the works according to internal company requirements, a regulatory quality standard and to meet customer demand
In addition they would monitor processes through visual inspection, sample gathering and on-line monitor checking and then completing of log sheets and shift logs to regulatory auditable standards
Process fault-finding and suitable rectification by first fix, raising issues to maintenance or management as required
Supporting process needs of contractors completing work to improve process reliability
Responding to specific situations to ensure the relevant processes are brought under control or escalated to an event, by supporting the process controller
This role has serious responsibility to ensure the effective and continuous operation of the works (24/7).
What are we looking for?
We are looking for someone with a good level of literacy: a minimum of GCSE Maths, English and ideally science subjects. And with electrical or mechanical skills would be desirable. As well as this you will have good computer skills with ability to use basic programs, such as Microsoft Word, Excel & Outlook. If you have experience of SCADA & Wonderware systems with a good ability to navigate systems and use to fault find through trends analysis, this is ideal.
Experience in a similar role, with an understanding of water treatment processes would be advantageous, although full training will be provided. You will possess the ability to work confidently and unsupervised on 2-man, 12-hour shifts, day or night. You will have a reasonable level of physical fitness as the job will involve time split between completing sampling around the site and working in the control room.
Thames Water information and salary details
This role is based out of our Hampton water treatment works in West London. We are offering a salary of up to £32,890 depending on experience and qualifications. This role has a 6 week rolling shift pattern, for which you will be paid a 25% shift enhancement.
