What is the purpose of the role?
This is an exciting opportunity where you will be providing expert advice and leadership on relationships with key personnel in local & regional Government and the third sector across London to aid the delivery of our operational projects and regulatory business objectives. The emphasis of the role lies on positively developing the company’s reputation and profile through mapping, understanding, building and maintaining relationships with key opinion formers in the area, both external and internal.

What will this role involve?
We can promise that this role will be extremely interesting where no two days are the same. Key duties will include:
Identifying key contacts and stakeholders for major strategic business issues within Local Authority areas. Analyse and communicate stakeholders' long-term positions and objectives working closely with colleagues in Stakeholder Engagement.
Monitoring the political environment in order to identify and advise on emerging issues that could affect the business.
Feeding into the overall stakeholder engagement intelligence to inform the business of local and regional government issues, to guide relevant business units on perceptions and expectations from local/regional government; and to coordinate approach and key messages for political stakeholders.
Building on existing relationships with MP’s and Councillors to enhance trust and influence.
Establishing and maintaining robust internal relationships with water and waste-water operations through direct meetings and networking across the business, liaising closely with colleagues in the Stakeholder Engagement team as the in-house expert on regional & local government issues.
Actively develop opportunities to engage in dialogue with local political stakeholders and decision makers to build Thames Water’s visibility and open up channels for cooperation.
Supporting the Local and Regional Government Manager in developing and implement a local stakeholder engagement plan for Thames Water.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for a person with experience in a stakeholder and customer facing role. You must have an excellent political knowledge of local, regional and national government and ideally experience working for a local authority or Member of Parliament. You must also have a strong previous track record of communications and campaign handling, from a background in public affairs, stakeholder engagement, communications, media or similar. The ability to influence showing empathy and understanding is vital, along with the passion to understand key opinion formers and their needs. As a confident public speaker, you will be credible, diplomatic and be able to form strong relationships. A clean driving licence is essential. This role will also require occasional weekend and evening work.
Thames Water information and salary details
This role is based in south London, but will also require travel to the business’s headquarters in Reading and other locations across London and the South East. We are offering a salary of up to £40,000, depending on skills and experience; plus an excellent contributory pension, holiday allowance and a wider benefits scheme which includes an annual pay review, season ticket loans and loyalty awards for continuous service plus discounts at a wide range of retailers via Benefits on Taps. We also offer 2 paid volunteering days per year.
