What you will be doing

As the Data Engineer, you’ll implement efficient data flow and data analysis processes to automate repetitive tasks in the team. This involves the development and implementation of data flow from various digital platforms (company internal and external) into the team’s databases. You’ll also be responsible for providing analysis and commentary to enable the department and our customers to make informed business decisions.

We are looking for a highly independent individual to become the data engineering and analysis subject matter expert in the team. Once the initial data automation project is completed, there will be the opportunity to further develop this function.

The main responsibilities of the role include:

  • Develop and maintain data flows (company internal and external)
  • Design and maintain internal databases and future data analysis products (e.g., weather database, flow database)
  • Collect and analyze data to support the needs of the team or department and manipulate as necessary (such as trend and performance analysis)
  • Provide management reports and presentations, collecting and analyzing complex technical data with expert commentary, advice, and recommendations
  • Develop data strategy for the team in conjunction with the team lead and team manager

We’re looking for you to:

  • Have a good understanding of coding best practices and design patterns and experience with code and data versioning, dependency management, code quality, and optimisation, error handling, logging, monitoring, validation, and alerting
  • Be competent in writing well tested object-oriented python
  • Have experience building ETL pipelines with tools such as Databricks
  • Be highly numerate with advanced knowledge of data analysis modeling
  • Be a strong communicator who can build positive relationships with stakeholders across the business at all levels
  • Have a relevant business/technical experience and an appreciation of technology innovations and engineering techniques
  • Be a team player who takes accountability for your role while working accurately and flexibly within a busy team
  • Be experienced in programmatically deploying, scheduling, and monitoring components in a workflow
  • Be adept in writing complex queries against relational and non-relational data stores
  • Possess a good understanding of design choices for data storage and data processing, with a particular focus on cloud data services (ideally in Azure)
