What you will be doing

As the Support Analyst, you’ll provide support to the laboratory and act as an interface between the internal stakeholders and the laboratory teams.

The role involves meeting couriers who bring in samples for analysis, processing the samples and passing them to the relevant team in the Laboratory in a timely manner.  You will also be responsible for the safe disposal of samples and recycling. This is a fast-paced environment, and all training is provided to aid in working together as part of the larger team.

This role is critical to support the sampling and analysis of statutory analytical requirements for compliance with DWI and EA standards.

The Customer Service & Logistics department is resourced between Monday to Friday 08:00 and 21:00 and you will need to cover this by working different shifts during the week; 08:00 to 16:30, 10:30 to 19:00 and 12:30 to 21:00.

Our labs are a key part of the business which allows us to monitor that our drinking water is safe and clean and that our waste product is treated in the correct way. Not only do we analyse samples from our customers' homes but also from our sites and the rivers too.

Key areas of accountability will include:

  • Processing daily deliveries of samples and consumables via the goods inwards area and then onward delivery to the relevant analytical departments
  • Identifying, investigating, reporting, and resolving any issues with samples upon receipt
  • Preparation and distribution of bottles to the relevant Thames Water teams for sampling purposes whilst maintaining full laboratory records in order to meet the departmental key performance targets
  • Disposal of clean and waste sample bottle contents after analysis and washing/recycling of those sample bottles
  • Developing your skills and knowledge to ensure processes are carried out to the right quality and technical standards
  • Responding to internal customer enquiries in a timely manner
  • Adhering to health and safety policies and procedures at all times adopting a zero-tolerance attitude to incidents, harm, and compromise at all times
  • Identifying and/or contributing to delivering continuous improvement initiatives 
  • Manual handling/lifting of cases of samples and consumables, some of which can be heavy (up to 20kg)

We’re looking for you to:

  • Be educated to GCSE level for Maths and English (or equivalent)
  • Follow strict instructions and guidelines to produce, record, maintain and verify data within a highly regulated UKAS accredited Laboratory
  • Have our customers at the heart of everything you do and value being part of a team to deliver exceptional customer service
  • Have excellent communication, both written and verbal, along with strong interpersonal skills
  • Be computer literate and have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, preferably Microsoft 365
  • Be comfortable carrying out repetitive work and have a real passion for working in a laboratory
  • Constantly looking for ways to improve both yourself and processes and will be comfortable in putting your ideas forward
  • Be comfortable and able to lift heavy objects
