What you’ll be doing as a Field Engineer:

Being the Field Engineer in this position will see you plan, map and manage your workload, you will have the autonomy to manage and drive your working day. 

Covering Guildford and the surrounding areas or Aylesbury and surrounding areas, you the Field Engineer are accountable for providing customer-facing field activities to support the delivery of statutory and non-statutory work.

Out in the field, you’ll be acting as the company face of Thames Water, and with your informal yet professional nature, you’ll be providing excellent customer service to our customers as well as external contractors.

Being the Field Engineer in this position will see you being hands-on, covering a wide and varied range of activities from conducting basic surveys for new water supplies and water mains to carrying out illegal connection investigations.

You’ll be looking after several sites at any one time ranging in size from a single supply site to a total sewer adoption site, inspecting 100 plus manholes.  The Field Engineer will need to ensure our customers are given first-class service by us and our service provider to deliver a program on time and manage an experience expected from a company like Thames Water.

This role will involve:

  • Carrying out field surveys for new connections and mains by KPIs, ensuring that accurate and sufficiently detailed information is supplied to allow designs to be created with zero variations.
  • Carrying out water regulations inspections, auditing contractors and approving plumbers for compliance with legislation.
  • Attending site and assisting with the delivery of connections, traffic management meetings, mains shut, the monitoring and reporting of contractor activity, meter investigations, rectifications and council liaising.
  • Project management of smaller mains schemes including contractor supervision, control over variations, Health and Safety and where appropriate materials ordering and liaising with the customer and other stakeholders.
  • Carrying out site inspections of Section 104 Sewer Adoption, building over and new sewer connections work and providing accurate and timely reports to the office.
  • Carrying out Health and Safety audits on contractors in the field and promoting Health and Safety at all opportunities.

What you should bring to the role

This position will suit someone holding an engineering qualification at the ONC level as a minimum, with working knowledge of the clean water or sewer network, would be desirable, particularly Health & Safety and Streetworks standards.

You will have a knowledge of NRSWA / TMA and pipe-laying/pipeline construction or some background in the plumbing industry ideally.

You will need to be computer literate and will possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.

As this is a field-based role with a company van provided, a fully valid UK driving license is essential as you will be required to travel to multiple locations.
