We have an exciting opportunity at Thames Water to join us as a Project Engineer.

This role will work within the operations team in North East London as the engineering lead for project delivery, liaising with our Capital Maintenance Projects colleagues to deliver our ambitious Capex Programmes.

Your role will also be health and safety focused, including the review of contractor Risk Assessment and Method Statements, issue of TWOSAs (Thames Water Operational Safety Authorisation) and other permits, as well as signing off new assets and accepting project handovers to operations.

  • Base location: North East London - Coppermills (WTW) - E177HE.
  • Working pattern: Hybrid – 36 hours per week. (Mon – Fri)
  • Full UK Driving License Required as travelling to other sites and fields will be required.

What you’ll be doing as a Project Engineer (Water Industry)

  • Scope project works for capital maintenance teams to deliver, check and support the development of risk assessments and method statements for the projects, and brief to the internal teams.
  • Be the dedicated point of contact for Capital Maintenance teams for contractual RFIs (Requests for Information) and coordinate operations led by remedial works on site.
  • Ensure compliance with Thames Water Asset, Drinking Water and Health and Safety Standards and Regulations, and wider industry standards and best practice by internal project teams and the wider Capital Maintenance projects.
  • Issuing health and safety permits and authorisations for key works on site.
  • Coordinating outages on site and managing conflicting priorities from Operations, and Capital Maintenance Projects teams.
  • Analyse key performance data from the site and develop scopes for engineering solutions to improve performance.
  • Highlighting and escalating key operational risks to capital project programmes.
  • Reviewing and optimising quotes, capturing efficiencies of project work and using a variety of contractors to drive best value.
  • Attend team meetings to work alongside the rest of the Technical Team and support each other when required. Provide technical support to the team to support development and learning.

What should you bring to the role?

  • Relevant experience in operations, maintenance and/or engineering (design and construction) in the Water/Utilities industry is highly desirable.
  • Formal engineering qualifications and/or strong drinking water treatment process competence are highly desirable.
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety in the Construction industry.
  • NEBOSH / IOSH H&S Qualifications are desirable.
  • Good understanding of the principles of project delivery in process industries.
  • Proactive approach and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills, with the ability to collaborate. Effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates commercial acumen and financial awareness, with the ability to make informed business decisions.
  • Fully competent at using the appropriate company IT Systems and Office Software.

  • Offering a salary from £47,000 to £55,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience.
  • Annual Leave: 26 days holiday per year, increasing to 30 with the length of service. (plus bank holidays)
