We’re looking for a Senior Project Manager to lead the delivery of a portfolio of major projects in the Hertfordshire/Essex area. You’ll manage projects from early-stage design and pricing through to construction, working closely with contractors and internal teams to drive performance. This role demands a proactive, hands-on leader with the determination and enthusiasm to make a real impact. You’ll champion health, safety, and environmental excellence while delivering outstanding results for local communities.
What you’ll be doing as a Senior Project Manager
- Developing and delivering an optimised project to achieve all regulatory, statutory and internal outputs, deadlines and targets.
- Delivering successful technical solutions that provide optimal value for money on a capital and whole life cost basis.
- Managing and developing the project team in a culture of accountability and achievement
- Leading a customer-focused culture, unrelenting in its pursuit of excellence in service delivery to both internal and external customers.
- Proactively ensuring every customer touch point is a positive experience to remember.
- Actively protecting, managing and enhancing Thames Water’s reputation to external customers and stakeholders.
- Maintain strong external stakeholder relationships to actively protect and enhance Thames Water’s reputation to external customers and communities.
- Establish and continuously promote a proactive health, safety & environment culture across Project and our service providers.
- Delivering sustainable financial out-performance against approved budgets.
- Commercially managing all contract matters to achieve the optimal outcome for Thames Water.
Location: Hybrid, with travel between project sites at: Brentwood, Barkway, Hatfield Heath, Little Hallinbury and Theydon Bois, with occasional visits to Clearwater Court, Reading.
Working Hours: 36 hours a week, Monday to Friday.
Competitive salary from £67,000 to £88,000 per annum
What you should bring to the role
To thrive in this role, the essential criteria you’ll need is:
- Degree level or equivalent demonstrable experience in an engineering discipline.
- An experienced Construction Senior Project Manager – with a background in delivering solutions in complex, regulated environments, ideally water or utilities.
- Commercially astute, able to develop strong contractual relationships and drive results with Tier 1 Contractors.
- The ability to multitask and manage several multi-million construction projects.
- A proactive, hands-on leader with the determination and enthusiasm to make a real impact.
- Excellent communication and listening skills with an engaging and open approach.
- Prepared to travel and work across a number of sites in the Surrey area, with occasional travel to Reading Head Office.
