As an operations manager, you will lead, coordinate, and support an operational service team comprising technicians, coordinators, technical leads, and contractors who work on the Thames Water trunk main and distribution network.
Your team will be offering support to deliver network maintenance, and ensuring accurate, calibrated and verified instrumentation. You will play a key role in helping Thames Water to meet its performance commitments and ODIs, but your primary focus will be the well-being and performance of your team.

What you’ll be doing as the Field Operations Manager
- Responsible for managing the Health, Safety and Wellbeing of all the people in my team, and all those working on the water network under my leadership.
- Lead a team that delivers an exceptional service to our customers, ensuring that they trust us, they feel we are easy to do business with and that we really care.
- Responsible for managing the budgetary and financial activities of the team with guidance from the Field Service manager (Line Manager)
- Have clear objectives and targets, with a good understanding of KPI’s and what is required to deliver good performance.
- Lead and develop a highly performing team focused on briefing and delivering specified outputs in an efficient, effective, and commercially sound manner.
- Ensure your team is effectively resourced and that you have a capacity plan to demonstrate where there are risks in servicing provision, working with other departments to support times of high demand.
- Very good knowledge of the processes of water networks, as well as Water Network Standards, to understand and demonstrate best practice.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision, under their own initiative, to deliver specified work streams within SLAs.
- Ability to manage overtime usage on a controlled, reportable and fair basis.
- Competent at using appropriate company IT Systems and office-based software, with a preference for experience in GIS, Meterman, Z-One, PI, SCADA, Sample Manager, and MS Teams.
- Excellent communication and inter-personal skills.
- High level of attention to detail with the ability to work accurately with high work volumes.
- Proactively own either non-available asset issues on high-priority assets, complex cases, or out of SLA cases, to attain a resolution.
Base Location: Ashford Common - TW15 1RU
Working Pattern: 36 Hours Monday- Friday 7:30 am – 3:30 pm
Due to the nature of this role, you must hold a full UK driver's licence
What you should bring to the role
To thrive in this role, the essential criteria you’ll need are:
- Strong people leadership skills.
- Ability to analyse performance and report on KPI’s and SLA’s.
- Understanding of the water network and its assets.
- Good presentation skills and familiarity with the MS Office suite of applications.
- Strong communication skills for written and presentation purposes.
Additional skills and experiences that would be beneficial
- Used to working in a fast-paced environment.
- Flexible and agile approach to managing projects or programmes of work.
- Ability to carry out health and safety management audits of work locations.
- Familiar with HR processes, recruitment and policies.
- Experience of collaborating in a work environment with Trade Unions.
- Quality control and compliance reporting.
- Definition and delivery of performance improvement plans.

- Competitive salary paying up to £42,900 per annum, depending on skills and experience.
