We have an exciting opportunity for an Illegal Connections Investigator to join our Illegal Connections Team.
The Illegal Connections Team at Thames Water are leading the industry and has, over several years, developed an enforcement strategy. We work closely with our legal team to review our processes and the legislation to ensure best practice is continually developed and achieved.
The successful candidate will join two other investigators within this dynamic, fast-paced team that solely focuses on ensuring Thames Water protects our clean water network. You will be working with the Illegal Connections Manager, investigating instances of illegal water connections that are made to our clean network and applying the relevant enforcement legislation.
What you’ll be doing as the Illegal Connections Investigator
- Targeting areas and developers known for illegal connections
- Engaging with developers to educate and work toward rectification and compliance.
- Gather evidence ensuring CPIA, PACE and Water Industry Act governance
- Customer and stakeholder liaison.
- Reporting, good inter-personal skills and ability to communicate at all levels.
- Delivering educational presentations both internally and externally
- Flexible approach to working hours when required and willingness to travel where necessary within the Thames Water clean water network area
Base Location – This is a hybrid role, and the base location can be flexible across our London and Thames Valley sites.
36 hours per week, Monday-Friday.
What you should bring to the role
To thrive in this role, the essential criteria you’ll need are:
- Preferably background in enforcement
- Evidence gathering and court file preparation experience is essential
- Water Industry knowledge would be an advantage, but not essential
- Excellent reporting and management of workloads
- Good IT / MS Office / SharePoint
- An ability to self-manage workload and time management, along with being self-motivated.
- Motivated to conduct a gap analysis on each case and have excellent attention to detail and accuracy

- Offering between £46,000 and £48,000 per annum, depending on experience and skills.
- 26 days holiday per year, increasing to 30 with the length of service. (Plus bank holidays)
