About the role:

The purpose of the role is to support planned and reactive operational tasks on the clean water network Thames Water across the Thames Valley. 

Therefore, the base location can be at a variety of our sites such as Reading, Oxford, Swindon, Bourne End and across the Thames Valley. 

This role will require the full support of Eight20 Projects and Infrastructure Alliance Programme of works including planned Trunk Main leakage repairs, support leakage detection using external companies such as Sahara.

Checking that key strategic and high consequence valves are accessible and operational, supporting PRV maintenance plan and district meter maintenance.

Additionally, there will be a requirement to support networks teams where requested during burst main and weather related ‘events.  

The role will ensure the team provides excellent service to all our whole customer base, through careful planning and key understanding of works being undertaken. 

Specific Responsibilities Include

  • Support and work with our third-party contractors, through the Eight20 and Infrastructure Alliance programme of works, such as new mains and trunk main repairs.
  • Complete a programme of work checking accessibility and operability of key High Consequence Valves and High-Risk Valves as part of our business compliance.
  • Support the PRV servicing plan to completion each year.
  • Support our network colleagues during clean water ‘events’.
  • Assist, where required, with District Meter services and replacement to ensure we attain our company availability targets.
  • Trunk Main leakage detection using a variety of methods such as mains walking, hydra phones, correlations and Sahara, and support our Netconn colleagues where required.
  • This role is involves using 341.2 banked hours per year. It is important to note that this role will require unsociable working hours and therefore a 28.2% shift enhancement is part of the overall salary package. 

To be successful you will have the following skills and experience:

  • We are looking for someone that has well developed clean water network understanding as well as clear understanding of the key roles and responsibilities as noted above.
  • This role requires the right person willing to work in a flexible manner and bring to the role a clear understanding of your developed network understanding of the Clean Water Network.
  • This role will require you to work on your own as well as within a small team.
  • Ideally you will hold all current certifications that cover Water Hygiene, NRSW unit 2, disinfection, sampling, flushing, valve operations, CALM. Good understanding of SCADA is desirable.
  • Understanding of Permit to Work system.
  • The role requires driving to different locations across the area therefore you must be a confident driver and hold a full UK driving licence.
