About the role: 

This role will involve controlling the day-to-day operation of the works processes, including but not limited to three disinfection streams, 24 rapid gravity filters, ozonation, 32 slow sand filters and wash-water treatment. The successful candidate would be responsible for operating the works according to internal company requirements, a regulatory quality standard and to meet customer demand.

In addition they would monitor processes through visual inspection, sample gathering and on-line monitor checking and then completion of log sheets and shift logs to regulatory auditable standards.

Process fault-finding and suitable rectification by first fix, raising issues to maintenance or management as required. Supporting process needs of contractors completing work to improve process reliability.

Communicating with London water control centre in a timely and appropriate manner, implementing their requests with due consideration for site capacity and performance.

Responding to specific situations to ensure the relevant processes are brought under control or escalated to an event.

This role has serious responsibility to ensure the effective and continuous operation of the works (24/7).

To be successful you will have the following skills and experience:

  • We are looking for someone with a good level of literacy: a minimum of GCSE Maths, English and ideally science subjects.
  • As well as this you will have good computer skills with ability to use basic programs, such as Microsoft Word, Excel & Outlook.
  • If you have experience of SCADA systems including Wonderware & RTAP with a good ability to navigate systems and use to fault find through trends analysis, this is ideal.
  • Experience in a shift controller role, although full training will be provided, experience of the processes used at a large water treatment works would be advantageous.
  • You will possess the ability to work confidently and unsupervised on 12-hour shifts, day or night.
  • You will have a reasonable level of physical fitness as the job will involve movement around the site.
  • A considerable portion of your time will be spent working in the control room.
