What is the purpose of this role?

As the Sewer rehabilitation engineer you act as the technical gatekeeper for all capital follow on work solutions, responsible for suggesting sewer rehabilitation which considers delivery, affordability and risk. You will engage with a number of stakeholders across the business, acting as the bridge between the office and field to ensure that the best delivery solution is designed for both the business and our customers.

Working closely with the office technical specialist manager, you will ensure that best practice and key learnings are regularly fed back to the relevant field and office teams. This is a key role and a fantastic opportunity to be involved in innovation within the industry, actively seek out and embracing challenges and refining the role.

You will act as the technical sign off for capital activities raised above an agreed threshold following an assessment of technical and geospatial information to develop a cost effective solution. This may involve the preparation of presentations and business cases to justify spend.

What does the role involve?

Propose a minimal viable scheme for sewer rehabilitation, managing residual risk based on the consequence of failure.

Engage with internal and external stakeholders to discuss and manage asset deterioration including highlighting alleviated or residual asset risks to the business and ensuring that future risk is effectively managed to mitigate against customer impact or loss of service.

Monitor contractor performance including capability and scope creep, as well as identifying trends or areas for improvement. Be able to engage with, challenge and effectively manage contractors so as to design and implement the most appropriate technical delivery solution.

Share best practice and knowledge of innovative techniques with the business, supporting continuous improvement in the Customer Solutions Centre and applying cutting edge technology for the purpose of sewer rehabilitation and asset remediation.

Proactively manage schedule and work flexibly where needed to fully utilise working time and manage internal and external relationships, both at Thames operational sites and field locations.

  • We are ideally looking for a degree educated or equivalent engineer.
  • Experience with sewer rehabilitation would be ideal.
  • We are looking for someone with effective communication skills - with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Someone who can build positive relationships quickly and with proven stakeholder engagement.
  • Ideally you will have previous experience in the utilities, water and/or wastewater industry.
  • Highly organised with attention to detail.
  • Fully MS office competent and a quick learner on new company systems.
  • You will have broad knowledge and application of trenchless techniques and proven knowledge of industry standards i.e. SRM, MSCC.
  • An understanding of budgets and cost management would be beneficial.
  • You will be focussed, methodical and have an excellent understanding of key procedures.
  • Due to the nature of the role, a full driving licence is required.
  • You will be able to demonstrate the ability to deliver projects to meet both commercial and technical objectives.
