About the role:

We are looking for a Cloud Operations & Support Engineer to provide day to day support for our expanding Azure Cloud infrastructure.

This role is within our newly created internal cloud support team.

This is a high-profile role supporting the core of the infrastructure world, with a high degree of autonomy and responsibility.  Due to this being a new team there will be an opportunity to make a real difference and influence the provision and support of our Azure ecosystem.

Thames Water is on a very exciting journey to improve our IT services. You will be part of a new team creating our own in house multi-million-pound ITIL service management framework. You will be involved in continuously improving our service for our current and future long-term vision.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Work with projects to bring new services on to the platform.
  • Make recommendations to improve cost-efficiency or performance on the platform by re-architecting or changing the existing solution stacks.
  • Identify and automate cloud platform processes where there is proven business value.
  • Automation.
  • Work in a collaborative way with members of the team using Agile methodology.
  • Highlight opportunities for automation of our resolution steps where possible.
  • Serve as an Incident Management escalation point for major incidents.
  • Support the infrastructure running in Azure (Windows and Linux)
  • Support of all platform services, Azure SQL Database, etc.
  • Maintenance and continual improvement of Azure monitoring solutions.
  • Diagnose and Fix all L2 and L3 related support incidents.
  • Manage, maintain, support, and improve our ability to respond to incidents across the entirety of the IT Infrastructure estate.
  • Undertake root cause analysis of major incidents.
  • Respond to Incidents raised by the business in ServiceNow.
  • Liaise with all appropriate parties to resolve tickets as they arrive.
  • Participate in the ITIL Change and Release process.

To be successful you will have the following skills and experience:

  • Demonstrable experience in a fast-paced IT operations environment.
  • Will be versed in all aspects of Azure technology, from IaaS to PaaS solutions. Certification an advantage.
  • Knowledge of Azure automation desirable.
  • Good grasp of platform design methodologies and best practices when it comes to securing those platforms in a Cloud environment.
  • Understands and has used Azure DevOps in an enterprise environment.
  • Be highly technical in nature and have a good understanding of Linux and Windows operating systems.
  • Good working knowledge of PowerShell, ARM Templates, Unix shell scripting
  • Able to take control of a situation and provide guidance in an incident.
  • Can integrate well with a small team of highly technical individuals.
  • Broad exposure to lots of different technologies.
  • Be highly flexible in approach to the work required.
  • Experience of other cloud platforms desirable especially AWS.
