About the role:

You will drive the internal and external financial reporting of the property aspect of our business, including day to day management of the five active property companies and property aspect of the main trading entity. You will assist in production of timely and accurate monthly management packs, annual financial statements and aspects of the regulatory accounts, ensuring our reporting applies the relevant financial and regulatory reporting guidance and meet our customer and other stakeholder needs.

You will be responsible for the development of a first-class management and external financial reporting service, in line with strategic business objectives and changes to the financial and regulatory reporting frameworks.

This is a demanding but extremely varied opportunity in a large organisation, that will give you the opportunity to make a real impact on the way we operate as a business and putting you in regular contact with some of our most senior stakeholders. You will drive both our external financial reporting and the relationship between Finance and the wider business.

In addition to your core role, you will join your friendly external financial reporting colleagues on site visits to Waste and Water treatment works, have access to a range of training courses and enjoy team social events. You will enjoy a varied roll with the opportunity to gain experience in a management accounting role with additional regulatory and statutory reporting elements.

This role will involve:

  • You will be creating high quality monthly reports, analysis and commentary on performance for review with the Head of Property and Group CFO enabling successful financial decision making.
  • You will be the key point of contact for external property services provider and the external auditors in relation to property requests.
  • You will produce quarterly forecasts and annual budgets – P&L and Balance Sheet - for all five active property companies and the property cost centres within the main trading entity.
  • You will have day-to-day management of the five active property companies and property cost centres within the main trading entity, including processing of journals and preparation of balance sheet reconciliations.
  • You will also prepare annual financial statements for the five active property entities and one dormant entity.
  • You will support the regulatory reporting of the property information within the Annual Performance Report and ad hoc projects for property and wider external statutory and regulatory reporting.
  • Ensuring the highest levels of data integrity are upheld, group accounting policies are consistently applied, and adherence to deadlines is maintained.

To be successful you will have the following skills and experience:

  • To effectively perform this role, it is essential that the successful candidate is a qualified chartered accountant (ACA, ACCA or equivalent).
  • The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background with experience of external financial reporting under FRS 101.
  • In addition, strong communication and relationship management skills will be essential, as maintaining and building robust relationships with a variety of key stakeholders is vital within this position.
  • Additionally, you will have strong experience of working in a team towards a common objective within tight deadlines.
  • Experience of using company IT systems including SAP and HFM would be desirable.
