About the role:

As a key member of the wider Finance team, you will be primarily responsible for the development of a first-class business partnering service for the Major Projects’ capital programme in line with strategic business objectives.

You will drive best in class reporting of the performance and controls of the Major Projects’ capital spend programme, provide a challenge to project deliverers and ensure adherence to financial best practice.

This presents an exciting opportunity to enhance existing processes in order to provide greater insight into capital projects and to positively influence reporting developments for the forthcoming AMP7 (Asset Management Plan) reporting period.

Key Accountabilities: 

  • Business Partnering to understand performance and business-specific issues, and providing financial support to non-finance colleagues.
  • Demonstrable experience of proactive commercial acumen e.g. development of leading and lagging indicators; reporting of KPIs and risks and opportunities.
  • Flexibility in taking ownership of new projects as we enter the new AMP7 reporting period and the capital programme evolves.
  • Developing best practice processes and procedures around assimilating and communicating financial data.
  • Ensuring the highest levels of data integrity are upheld, Group accounting policies are consistently applied, and adherence to deadlines is maintained.
  • Implementing process improvements in key controls and efficiencies supporting budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Reporting of expenditure against budget and forecast.
  • Experience in delivering key deliverables of high quality and accuracy to tight timescales.
  • Providing ad hoc technical accounting advice / ensuring correct accounting treatment.
  • Booking journals and preparation of balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Experience of using company IT systems including SAP and HFM is desirable.
  • Experience of Capex reporting is advantageous.

Key Requirements:

  • To effectively perform this role, it is essential that the successful candidate is a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
  • In addition, strong communication and relationship management skills will be essential, as maintaining and building robust relationships with a variety of key stakeholders is vital within this position.
  • Additionally, you will have strong experience of working in a team towards a common objective within tight deadlines.
  • Committed self-starter with a proactive approach to work.
