About the role:

Operating as a key player in the economic regulation team, provide high quality economic and regulatory advice to senior management (Executive/Board) and across the business to develop the long-term interests of the business.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide high-quality specialist economic and regulatory advice and analysis on a wide range of economic market and regulatory issues using, where appropriate, detailed quantitative and econometric analysis.
  • Provide a source of economic expertise to assist the business in the analysis of areas of complexity to ensure decisions are based on robust quantitative analysis of the issues.
  • Communicate key findings from complex analysis to a wide range of audiences including senior managers and Executive Team in a manner suitable for the audience.
  • Engage with Ofwat to obtain good outcomes for customers through direct contacts, working groups, and responses to Ofwat consultations on economic and regulatory issues.
  • Provide expert economic and quantitative expertise, advice and analysis on a range of issues to support the annual business planning cycle and to develop strategy and tactics for the quinquennial review of price controls.

To be successful you will have the following skills and experience: 

  • Degree level qualification in the analytical subject, preferably economics or mathematics.
  • Prior experience working in a Regulatory body (eg Ofwat, Ofgem etc)
  • Thorough understanding of economic regulation in utilities.
  • Strong influencing & communication skills (written and oral).
  • Ability to think outside the box.
  • High-level competencies in analytical, conceptual & strategic thinking, order, and quality change orientation and team working.
