About the role:

Reporting to the Programme Manager (Project Definition), the Energy Programme Manager will work alongside the Energy team, Project Definition Leads and Delivery teams to drive the annual investment plan to meet the corporate strategic objectives and deliver the benefits in the form of outcomes and performance commitments, broken down to project level.

Accountable for the Energy Programme, you will manage the unbriefed and briefed programmes for each Delivery Office, providing oversight throughout delivery to ensure the benefits are realised upon completion. You will take the lead in ensuring that effective processes are in place to identify, monitor and resolve change at project and programme level.

You will support production of timely and comprehensive annual capital budgets, quarterly re-forecasts and monthly financial reporting.

Key areas of accountability will include:  

  • Provide clear leadership and ownership of the Energy programme, ensuring that programmes briefed into Delivery include baselines and key milestones against which progress can be measured. Employ critical thinking capability to drive value into the plan at an early stage.
  • Provide inputs to Portfolio management team in order to facilitate balancing wider needs of Thames Water as appropriate.
  • Identify key risks across the energy programme and lead the development of mitigation plans as appropriate.
  • Sponsor energy projects at the relevant governance meetings in line with the Gated Process.
  • Work with the Technical teams through optioneering, feasibility and outline design to achieve single, preferred solutions within the budget provision.
  • Ensure end user consultation has taken place and is embedded in the preferred solution.
  • Ensure an effective change control process is in place to identify, monitor and resolve changes.
  • Align all processes and procedures with other Capital Programme Manager(s) to ensure consistency is applied across the entire Delivery Portfolio.
  • Build strong relationships across Delivery Office and across the wider business.

To be successful, you will have the following skills and experience:

  • Manager with relevant technical degree and/or membership of a professional body preferable (e.g. APM/ Practitioner MSP/ Prince2/P3O/PPSO/ITIL).
  • Experienced in project and programme management (Energy projects preferable).
  • Strong commercial awareness is essential.
  • Technical awareness of their programme portfolio is desirable, but not essential.
  • Ability to analyse data and make decisions on partial information to maintain an optimised delivery programme.
  • Good project planning, estimating and financial forecasting skills with a working knowledge of best practice methodologies.
  • Excellent communication, inter-personal, and negotiating skills.
  • Strong influencing skills, highly organised with a strong drive and problem-solving approach.
  • Travel to key business sites will be required and therefore a full driving licence is essential.
