About the role:

The Data Centre Technician ensures all work activities carried out at the Data Centre and Communication Rooms are in line with existing procedures and meet current standards. These activities will include, but not be limited to, planning work schedules of installs, moves and changes, supporting internal teams when carrying out troubleshooting or responding to queries.

As a Data Centre Technician, you will be responsible for adhering to predefined requirements, following Change or Incident tickets. Working with internal and external teams, you will ensure installations meet with requirements from both a visual and functional requirement, while adhering to existing standards and industry best practices. An element of this role is to support our Data Centre Technician team providing cover as and when required, to maintain 24x7 operations.

This role will require travel to Data Centres and Communication Rooms within your region and may include support for other regions in support of other initiatives as and when required.

This role will give you experience of working in a Critical Infrastructure environment in a leading utilities company. Working on both BAU and project activities this role will give you the opportunity to develop and constantly improve as Thames Water continues to transform its Infrastructure.

 

As Data Centre Technician you will be responsible for:

  • Installs, moves and change activities within a Data Centre environment
  • Creating and updating Patching schedules, Rack Elevation documentation.
  • Reporting power, fault lights to relevant Service teams and act timely on events to prevent service interruption.
  • Problem solve and troubleshoot connectivity and hardware issues.
  • Create, review and approve Risk Assessment Method Statements (RAMS) and coordinate change tickets for BAU and project work.
  • Working with Project teams and third parties to arrange and manage circuit installs/removals.
  • Manage RMA/repair of defective equipment and devices.
  • Managing Access, deliveries and collections from the Data Centres.
  • Providing escort to third party engineers.
  • Act as SME for IT during planning and execution of Power downs and critical facility works.

 

To be successful in your application for Data Centre Technician you will:

  • Possess excellent communication skills, be reliable, motivated with a positive attitude.
  • Have experience working in Data Centres and Critical Infrastructure environments.
  • Have gained Multi-Vendor hardware installation experience, cabling experience of copper and fibre cabling (Installation, Termination & Testing), while being a proven problem solver.
  • You will also possess a basic working knowledge of CE infrastructures (e.g. UPS, Generator, AHU, etc.)
