About the role:

Thames Water requires an experienced management accountant for a 10-12 month maternity cover contract. To work with and support the Developer Services finance team in developing and maintaining a first class management accounting and reporting service in line with strategic business objectives and changes to financial and regulatory reporting frameworks.

To take responsibility for the transactional accounting of assigned cost centres to ensure compliance with both management and statutory accounting standards including month/year end close procedures, cost accruals, journals and balance sheet reconciliations.

Ensure control over the income statement, cash flow and balance sheet through regular reconciliation, review and challenge over assumptions and judgements. Ensure costs are capitalised and matched against capital income in a timely manner.

Assist with the on-going improvement of the financial control environment, through facilitating the documentation of all processes, identification of opportunities to improve financial reporting systems and controls, evaluating the effectiveness of controls, and drafting appropriate recommendations for rectifying control weaknesses and implementing processes improvements.

  • The timely and accurate production of management accounting information (including budgeting and forecasting) within required timescales and to a high quality, ensuring performance commentary includes actions required to maintain or improve future financial performance.

  • Responsibility for the transactional accounting of assigned cost centres to ensure compliance with both management and statutory accounting standards including month/year end close procedures, cost accruals, journals and balance sheet reconciliations.

  • Assist with the on-going improvement of the financial control environment, including adherence with, and documentation of, current processes and controls

  • To deliver allocated projects or larger programmes of work in order to meet Finance or wider business objectives.

 

To be successful you will have the following skills and experience:

  • Qualified chartered accountant (CIMA/ACCA or ACA) with up-to-date financial reporting knowledge (IFRS) and on-hand experience in using the organisations key financial systems (currently SAP, Excel and HFM)
  • Strong organisation and administration skills
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Deadline driven, with an eye for detail
  • Builds relationships with business stakeholders
  • Can perform effectively in complex and difficult environments
  • Proven ability to devise and continuously improve processes
