About the role:

Exciting things are happening at Thames Water and the water industry to improve our customers’ experience and this is the perfect opportunity to join us on our journey. Thames Water is at the forefront of the wholesale retail market and the inter wholesale market, known as the New Appointments and Variations market (NAV).

This team is required to develop, implement and facilitate the delivery of Thames Waters’ market obligations. We enable the sale of services to all companies licensed to operate in the water markets, this equates to over £400m of revenue that is managed within the team, as well as managing up to approximately £200m of risk associated with market compliance.

This is a unique opportunity to play a major part in shaping and driving this process, creating revenue, drive insight and improve performance for the business. We will provide you with all the tools you need to grow within the business and embark on a successful career with us.

  • You will form part of the market development team responsible for the governance, risk and control of participating in the open water market.
  • You will support business decision-making by maintaining an overview of our compliance, including appropriate governance to mitigate market penalties and the risk of competition compliance fines of up to £200m.
  • In this role, you will provide management information, analysis and commentary on market-related governance, identification of risks, maintenance of appropriate controls and compliance with market and competition requirements.
  • This may include sourcing and maintaining data as a resource for future reference, developing and carrying out audit-related activity, and agreeing and delivering remedial actions.
  • You will be part of an influential team, not only in shaping the way the company operates within the market but also in terms of markets codes’ rules and regulations.
  • You will have the opportunity to utilise your skills and channel your drive into modelling this role.

Key accountabilities:

  • Provide management reports and presentations, collecting and analysing complex technical data with expert commentary, advice and recommendations.
  • Produce compliance reports of a quality that can be published or shared with regulators and other authorities as required.
  • Design and deliver elements of technical solutions, using specialist technical skills, including any necessary audit activity.
  • Understand the complexities of market and competition law requirements and company governance arrangements; maintaining the company’s market-related risk and controls arrangements.
  • Conduct research, including face to face meetings, to find data to support the needs of the team or department and analyse and shape as necessary to provide useful information.
  • Support the department by liaising or attending meetings with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Co-ordinate and lead on briefed projects and activities.

To be successful:

  • Are you from a compliance or audit background? Do you have demonstrable experience driving processes? If the answer is yes, look no further!
  • We’re seeking a self-motivated, analytical individual with excellent attention to detail & communication skills in order to translate technical terminology.
  • You will be able to understand audit activity and risk & compliance issues in order to create compelling, evidential reports.
  • The ideal candidate will be able to pick up technical / market related knowledge in order to provide expert views to others across the business.
  • You will be successful in running & driving process improvements; both identifying gaps and implementing resolutions.
