The Water Network delivery approach is radically changing in the next few years.  With Customer Experience and Delivery Efficiency at its core, the Transformation will look at new and innovative ways to deliver the services required with a balance between internal and external outsource activities.  This role will be critical in looking at understanding the internal business requirements and helping define, source, contract those activities that should be delivered by the 3rd Party Supply Chain.

The role will require significant engagement with senior stakeholders internally and within the supply chain to help build a new model for delivery in the future.  It will also have the requirement to design a comprehensive market exercise to deliver a new supply chain to meet the long-term business needs and the ambitious targets for the project.

The successful individual will need to work collaboratively with the wider Commercial and Procurement team and will be the core representative on this programme accountable for Commercial and Procurement delivery.

Please note this is an 18 month Fixed Term Contract (FTC)

The role will involve: 

  • Understand the existing delivery model and the “To-be” model providing commercial input into further design of the “To-be” and identifying what opportunities and risks exist from a supply market perspective.
  • To build a plan from the existing model to the “To be” identifying potential risks to deliver and coming up with creative solutions to address
  • Ensure a commercial sourcing strategy and procurement plan which delivers the overall aims and timelines of the project.
  • Co-ordinate a supply market “centre of excellence” to identify the current market capability and what additional elements will need to be sourced (or can be built) to meet the requirements of the business.
  • Design a market exercise to drive maximum long-term value for the organisation including the requirements for ensuring value through post contract management.
  • Support and be part of the leadership negotiating team for the commercial negotiations for new arrangements ensuring delivery of the most commercially optimum result for Thames.
  • Manage exit from existing providers/contracts if required with minimal commercial risk exposure and impact to Thames.
  • Be the key Commercial and Procurement Lead on the project, representing the function and driving the Commercial agenda
  • Works closely with SME’s across the organisation to ensure robust market fact base is built up to inform end strategy.

To be successful you will have the following skills and experience: 

  • Experience of playing a key role in complex, fast moving multi stakeholder commercial projects, preferably in a regulated environment.
  • A track record in successful management of the commercial development/sourcing of multi million (£) projects. Able to demonstrate the ability to work with Project Managers, Operational Experts and Stakeholders to deliver projects that meet both commercial and operational and strategic objectives.
  • Ability to use own initiative and work without close supervision.
  • Ability to think strategically, analyse data and make decisions on partial information.
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills.
  • Commercial awareness, with strong influencing/negotiating skills
  • Ability to recognise commercial sensitivities and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work accurately at pace and to bring Thames colleagues on the journey with them
  • Ability to work with a wider Commercial and Procurement team to bring their knowledge and insight into the process in a timely way.
  • Ability to engage and constructively challenge to ensure delivery of the business aims.
