About the role:

As the Environmental Assurance Engineer, you will support and assist in the delivery of the Programme/Project Environmental objectives and targets. Working as an integrated member of the Delivery Office team, you will be responsible for ensuring Project compliance with all applicable environmental legislation and promote continuous improvement and efficiency through sustainable and environmentally sound innovation.

Creating a culture where environment and sustainable best practice are embedded into the day-to-day running of the operation, you will ensure that all legal and contractual environmental requirements are fully discharged.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Promote continuous improvement of environmental/sustainability performance of the project by fulfilling the duties of an Environmental Engineer.
  • Develop and outline the business case for sustainable initiatives – demonstrating the commercial benefit of green initiatives.
  • Be familiar with and communicate the requirements of current applicable environmental legislation, particularly with an understanding of infrastructure and related applicable environmental legislation.
  • Participate in the development, regular review and update of the project Environmental Management System.
  • Provide direction, support and assistance to all project personnel to enable them to manage their environmental duties and responsibilities.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of environmental and sustainability training.
  • Represent and promote the Environment department in meetings, workshops, management reviews and forums.
  • Raise the environment/sustainability and community relations awareness.
  • Carry out site inspections and ensure legal compliance with applicable environmental legislation is maintained.
  • Support external liaison with regulators i.e. Environment Agency, Local Authorities etc.
  • Continuously promote and seek recognition from the client and external bodies (e.g. Award bodies) thereby demonstrating visible environmental excellence throughout the project.

To be successful you will have the following skills and experience: 

  • Degree level (or equivalent) in an appropriate Environmental/Sustainability discipline.
  • Previous experience of the Utility Industry is desirable.
  • Full driving licence.
  • IT literate with an awareness of knowledge management.
  • Member of a relevant professional body or demonstrable relevant experience in the environment and sustainability field is desirable.
  • Customer focussed and works to meet expectations of internal and external customers.
  • Ability to make decisions, based upon a mixture of analysis, experience and judgement.
  • Ability to build strong relationships at all levels.
