About the role:

 

We are currently seeking an experienced and driven Finance Manager to provide a business partnering service to the Operational Support team function. This includes the Operational Service Centre (OSC) and OPALIM (Operational Projects, Logistics and incident management).

Working for the FC of Operations with a dotted line to the Heads of both functions you will manage a team of 2 management Accountants in addition to your role as a key member of the Operations Finance lead team.

 

Being a trusted business partner to the Heads of OSC, Systems Operations, OPAL (Logistics) and incident management. Advising on both financial reporting and Commercial matters as well as and gaining an understanding of risk and other non-financial aspects of the business to provide the context to the financial performance.

Responsibility for the accurate monthly, periodic and annual financial reporting of the Operational Support function, providing insightful analysis of outputs, run rates and efficiencies across both operational and capital expenditure in conjunction with operational performance.

Preparing summarised financial performance reports for discussion and presentation at the monthly performance meetings.

Leading a small team of management accountants; taking responsibility for their progression and development; ensuring tasks are completed within agreed timescales and to a high quality.

Coordinate and present annual budget and quarterly forecast submissions. You will be expected to prepare budgets and forecasts for operational and capital expenditure linking financial performance and investment to operational performance commitments.  Measuring and understanding the performances against these measures will form the primary basis of activity in the role.

 

Day to day duties and responsibilities may include;

 

  • Working with the operational support teams to provide financial information and analysis to support decisions.

 

  • Improving our understanding of the relationship between activity, operational performance and cost, and assisting the core Finance Managers in setting a plan that achieves operational and financial objectives.

 

  • Tracking and driving Finance transformation initiatives (for both Opex and Capex).

 

  • Working with other team members and Finance Manager to identify and deliver opportunities to improve control and efficiency.

 

  • Review the systems used in the business unit and identify and prioritise areas for improvement.  Participate in Business User Groups in order to push developments.

 

  • Ensure capital recharges are appropriate and that the business gets the best value for the allowed spend (in readiness for viewing costs on a Totex basis within Operations).

 

  • Work with other Management Accountants and external parties to identify and share good practice.

 

To be successful you will have the following skills and experience:

 

We are looking for confident and self-motivated professional who is interested in driving performance and understanding the relationship between operational and financial performance. Comfortable communicating with operational and financial colleagues, and the senior management team, the individual will have exceptional analytical skills, a desire to develop in line with the role and will be pro-active in implementing new ideas and challenges. Strong IS skills, including SAP and Excel will be strong advantage.

Experience of the Utility sector will also aid transition into the role.

This person should be a qualified accountant (CIMA, ACA or equivalent) with strong Business Partnering and management accounting experience.
