About the role:

The Transformation Portfolio Office Lead supports the Transformation Portfolio Director’s key responsibilities of assuring the delivery of the Thames Water Portfolio of Programmes, and of driving best practice and ongoing performance improvements.

The Transformation Portfolio Office ensures that at Thames we develop a Thames portfolio of transformation to deliver its strategic goals. It will ensure we do the right things at the right time and set them up for success. It will then take an assurance role to ensure benefits are realised as per the business case.

You will oversee the process that accepts demand into Transformation, assign people to define the solution, and conducts pre-checks on the business case prior to an investment decision.

You will have experience of Agile and Traditional delivery methodologies and develop and mature the portfolio office to adapt as Thames move towards a more agile approach to delivery.

You will be the guardian of the Thames Water methodology for Transformation Governance, ensuring we do the right things, set them up for success and deliver the outcomes. You will also drive continuous improvement to mature the capability within Thames Water.

You will work with all relevant Execs and Transformation Director to ensure that all programmes are clearly defined, managed and tracked in terms of benefits, milestones, dependencies, resource demand and budget.

You will not be responsible for the actual delivery of programmes and projects; instead, you will act as a critical friend to the change community and escalate as required any identified potential issue or risk regarding the delivery commitments of a programme, as well as any issue or risks you see regarding the (lack of) compliance of the programme delivery approach with the Thames Water Delivery Framework methodology.

Thames Water is undergoing significant business transformation, spanning all areas of the organisation, and as such the environment is fluid, challenging yet hugely rewarding. One of the essential transformational changes is the way programmes and projects are delivered.

Therefore, the work is very diverse, often ambiguous and requires someone that thrives when given autonomy to define scope and then lead cross-functional teams to deliver according to plan. Self-motivation, drive and pragmatism are critical as the role holder will need to be able to drive major changes in the ways of working, and support and guide the implementation of the Thames Water Delivery Framework. As such, someone with confidence to challenge, influence others, and drive through change would be an ideal fit.

You will be able to work with the senior stakeholders in the business and provide expertise to ensure the portfolio delivers the business needs as well as ensure critical path and dependencies are managed.
