About the role:

Working in the Security Operations team, your primary responsibility is helping to protect the organisation from threats and vulnerabilities. You will be the first escalation point for the security team, analysing incidents, coordinating and responding alongside other teams inside of Thames Digital and other functions inside of the business to prevent both internal and external threats, at all times working within the published Incident Response Standard

This role is varied and dynamic with no two days the same – however, you may find yourself:

  • Working as part of a team to ensure that corporate data and infrastructure are safeguarded from threats.
  • Monitoring changing threat and regulatory landscape to identify and address areas of concern.
  • Monitoring security events from various SOC entry channels, escalate and investigating issues in line with internal policies.
  • Participating in the IT Security Incident and Vulnerability management process, including vulnerability scan scheduling and remediation tracking
  • Proactively assessing potential risks and opportunities of vulnerability in the network.
  • Developing and deploying method to ensure internal and external teams maintain compliance with security policies
  • Recommending enhancements to SOC security process, procedures and policies.
  • Maintaining and developing internal KPI dashboard for highlighting system capabilities
  • Creating and maintaining knowledge base and end user-focused documentation

About You

  • Your mindset is the most important, you need to be keen to learn, you want to investigate, be curious and want to turn over that stone to find out why something is happening. You want to improve yourself, investigate new technologies and have a desire to improve your work environment by applying what you have learnt.
  • The ability to cross off some of these bullet points:
    • Prior Security Operations Experience
    • Cloud Security - we use a lot of Microsoft Cloud technologies
    • Incident Response Process
    • Operating Systems - Linux, Unix and Windows (all, some but not none!)
    • Understanding of the OSI model & Network Protocols
    • Network Security
    • Scripting - cobbled from Stack Overflow or self typed. Python or Powershell would be ideal
    • SIEM Query languages - Splunk SPL and/or Kusto KQL preferable
    • Endpoint protection technologies
    • Experience with SOAR platforms
    • Experience with security models like MITRE ATT&CK
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Enthusiasm, interest and a desire to learn more about the world of security
