About the role:

As Junior Business Modeller you will be responsible, along with the Enterprise Applications Architect, for developing Thames Water’s Enterprise Architecture modelling capability. Thames Water is capturing current and future state architectures in an Enterprise Architecture modelling tool (BiZZdesign). This is a crucial enabler in the large-scale transformation of the IT estate, enabling the CTO function to make informed choices about the future direction of our technology.

Thames Water is investing in a unified capability to model business, data and applications architecture on the same platform, supporting reporting and analytics on that platform, and disseminate the information in various formats to the stakeholders that need it.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Training – to enable others to understand how to use the software
  • Coaching – to assist others in its use on specific initiatives
  • Data Management – keeping the information up to date and in synchronisation with a number of other key systems of record
  • Support – providing technical support to the users of the software
  • Tailoring – adjusting the architecture repository (its structure, content and presentation) to meet the needs of the various types of users
  • Modelling – working with various stakeholders to record and manage models of various kinds
  • Reporting – generating outputs from the modelling tool for use in communication with others (including reporting on quality and conformance), possibly in an automated repeatable fashion
  • System Administration – a limited amount of administration, related to the use of the tool on specific initiatives

The Architecture Modelling Specialist roles will play a key part in providing these services.

To be successful you will have the following skills and experience:

Candidates do not necessarily need to have every one of the skills that we are seeking. What is more important to us is that candidates are willing to do all of the above activities as required, contribute their ideas to help drive the initiative forward, and are open to learning in areas where they lack experience.

A ‘can-do attitude and transferable skills are more important than complete experience in all the above areas.

We will provide the required training, but need candidates to be willing to take on any of the tasks as required.

It is important however that candidates possess a certain amount of analytic ability, as the team is dealing with structured information. A degree of conceptual thinking is also important.

Experience in programming will be an advantage (the language is immaterial) as some of the customisations that we use are implemented in a scripting language.

Some experience in user interface design, or tailoring presentations to meet the needs of different kinds of stakeholders, would also be helpful.

What’s in it for you?

Our competitive salary package includes an excellent contributory pension, 26 days holiday per year increasing to 30 with the length of service and a wider benefits scheme. This includes an annual pay review, season ticket loans, voucher scheme giving you money off in major retail outlets, loyalty awards for continuous service plus much more, including our referral scheme, where you can receive £750 for helping someone get a permanent position within the company.

We’re also proud to be here for our local community, offering everyone two days paid volunteer to leave a year, as well as proudly supporting a lot of local events and charities.
