About the role:

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Process Technician in the Thames Valley North area (Marlow, Aylesbury, Reading, High Wycombe, Wargrave, Didcot). Our technicians and engineers are a vital component in what Thames Water does. Our technicians are key figures on any site and often in the eye of the public.

As the successful candidate, you will be expected to perform a range of assigned front line.

Maintenance and operational activities on our sewage pumping stations.

The role also requires you to take part in a 1 week in every 6 weeks out of hour's emergency standby rota, for which an additional payment will be received.

Key Accountabilities:

On a day to day basis, you will receive your work assignments as well as respond to emergency alarms. You will be working as part of a team but there will be occasions when you will be required to work alone.

  • Upkeep of sewage pumping stations
  • planned maintenance
  • Reactive maintenance
  • fault-finding
  • Having a full understanding of our Health & Safety procedures for yourself and the sites you work on

Some of the systems you will be working on are as follows:

  • Wet well submersible pumps
  • Dry well-mounted pumps
  • Strate pump systems
  • Vacuum pump systems
  • Line shaft pumps
  • Ultrasonic level instruments
  • Float switch instruments
  • Multismart control units
  • NRVs
  • Gate valves
  • Rotor valves
  • Mobile generators
  • Fixed generators
  • Site fixed assets
  • Lighting systems
  • Various panel control systems

To be successful you will have the following skills and experience: 

  • You will have basic literacy and numeracy skills
  • Relevant industrial processing/engineering environment experience
  • Understanding of the workings of a sewage pumping station to include knowledge on different pump and valve systems would be preferable. but not essential
  • Must be physically fit and able to be trained in safety procedures including confined space entry and general lifting. An ongoing training plan will be put in place
  • Due to the nature of this role, a full clean driving licence required
