About the role: 

This is a crucial role within the Water Waste Networks Lead team, where you will be accountable for waste system operation services, pollution management and proactive control services. You will be accountable for the waste system operation strategy, in a year, in AMP and to support development in future AMPs.  

Within this role, you will be accountable for delivering a proactive event strategy for the waste business, including adverse weather preparation and be required to provide support and challenge to ensure delivery of the desired outcomes. 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Manage a multifunctional team which is split across a range of shift and contract types and promote a continuous improvement culture within the direct and wider team to support a sharing and learning environment.  
  • Maintain a team function that successfully allows for cross-skilling, succession planning and competency planning. 
  • Provide clear governance for waste permitting activities and work closely with onsite teams to ensure a safe working environment.  
  • Ensure that business processes and best operating practices are in place for System Optimisation. You will track and monitor the compliance with business standards. 
  • Ensure that we capture lessons learned after major events and consistently seek procedural improvements to reduce events and impacts in the future.  
  • Develop effective business resilience, security strategies and policies across the department.  
  • Provide an optimal service to our customers by adhering to business SLAs.  
  • Promote the system operations team within the customer base (including waste network, waste treatment and wider business), building relationships and links between teams.  

To be successful you will have the following skills and experience: 

  • You will possess excellent leadership experience, understanding how to engage a team and bring a strategy to life. 
  • Demonstrable ability to positively influence and work collaboratively with all levels of an organisation to achieve improved business outcomes. 
  • Ability to deliver against stretching and timely operational targets 
  • A broad understanding of the Utility industry, business, regulatory framework and the market. 
  • A strategic thinker with sound judgement and an excellent decision-making track record.
