About the role:

We are looking to recruit a Category Management Lead, reporting to the Head of Commercial Operations, this role is an essential part of the Procurement Change programme in ensuring that a Category Management approach is consistently embedded within the way that the Procurement Team at Thames Water delivers its service. 

The role will be required to deliver coaching, support and a “hands-on” approach to drive a consistent methodology to how categories are delivered across the group, leaving a lasting legacy within the individuals and teams that are worked with.

The role will require engagement with a number of the key Category Leads and Business Partners across the team and should be collaborative and constructively challenging whilst embedding good practice within the teams.  It will also require engagement with senior stakeholders across the organisation.

Success for the role is the creation and delivery of a standardised way of working and a quantifiable improvement in Procurement output and delivery as a result of the changes.

The role requires a highly experienced category expert, with a track record of Category Management and Supplier Management is driven results across a number of different category areas and business types.  The ability to share this knowledge and learning in a constructive way which creates a lasting legacy within the teams is a key requirement.

To be successful you will have the following skills and experience:

  • Firm understanding and experience of operating Utilities Contract Regulations 2016
  • Strong experience of a Category Management approach and understanding of good Procurement practice, including Supplier Management best practice.
  • Experience in enabling effective decision making at a senior level
  • Track record in continuous improvement and ability to deliver against stretching targets
  • Delivery of category-based success across a number of diverse categories and market places.
  • A good understanding of what good Category Management looks like and the ability to sell this into colleagues across the team.
  • A strong understanding of the Supplier Management process and how this fits into an overall category strategy.
  • Good understanding of the Procurement end to end process and how better information and improvements in the process can deliver value to the organisation.
  • Good understanding of data sources that can build a category plan and experience of using insight effectively.

 Desirable Qualifications:

  • Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (MCIPS) or equivalent
  • Degree educated
