What you will be doing

We are currently seeking a DSEAR Competency Assessor. This technical role primarily involves the assessment of a range of personnel involved in the asset cycle of explosion protected equipment across the business. It will involve the assessment of personnel engaged in electrical work within potentially explosive atmospheres to ensure that the required competency is achieved including work is undertaken to a high standard and in compliance with BS EN 60079 and BS7671.

The ideal candidate will be contributing to the success of DSEAR quality improvements across the business as well as the overall promotion and compliance with the Company Electrical Safety Rules. Role duties will include:

  • Day to day management of your area of the DSEAR competency assessment programme including managing your time visiting and assessing technical staff across the business.
  • Create reports resulting from assessments and create action plans
  • Contributing to Technical Forums to help drive safety improvements across the business.
  • Identifying skill gaps, providing coaching and organising internal/external training as required.
  • Communicating and engaging effectively with frontline technical staff and management
  • Providing DSEAR related technical support across the business
  • Contribute to solving problems on a variety of DSEAR related challenges across the business
  • To promote and maintain health, safety and wellbeing performance within the team

We’re looking for you to:

The ideal candidate must have previous experience in working as an Electrical Installation Electrician within an industrial environment, ideally Water Utility or Petro-Chemical sectors. You must be an approved Electrician with 18th Edition and Inspection & Testing qualifications and worked as a CompEx qualified Installation and Inspection Electrician with a suitable installation experience.

Hold a current qualification of CompEx Gas and Vapours (Ex01-Ex04) and have an Electrical Engineering or significant electrical engineering qualification to at least ONC or equivalent.

  • Have a proven track record in motivating a team with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ideally you will have worked in a supervisory role including coaching less technically able individuals.
  • In addition to CompEx Gas & Vapours (Ex01-Ex04) ideally have CompEx Dust (Ex05-Ex06) and/or CompEx Water Industry (Ex09 – Ex10)
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge of working on various equipment protection concepts (d, e, i, m, n)
  • Understanding of water and wastewater treatment processes is advantageous but not essential.
  • Able to use Office365 in particular MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams.
  • Good understanding of the Electricity at Work Regulations and their application to the business.
  • A full driving licence is essential as the role requires travel within the Thames Water region. You will have the option of a Thames Water Van or car allowance.
