About the role:

This role is part of a dynamic, fast paced team focused on ensuring we protect public health at all times in the delivery of a wholesome water supply. As the Drinking Water Safety Plan Scientist, you will be responsible for the completion of water treatment audits and risk assessment in accordance with Company and regulatory requirements. Following these assessments, you will communicate the risk and provide the provision of technical advice in the design of relevant mitigation (interim and permanent).

The base location for the role is flexible across the Thames Water region.

Key areas of responsibility will include:

  • Complete Drinking Water Safety Plan Audits (DWSPAs) of water treatment works to the required annual programme. This includes completion of site audits and technical evaluation of performance data.
  • Utilise information from site audits and other data to complete relevant DWSP risk assessments upon the company system (DWSPIT). This shall be completed in compliance to Company procedures and other accreditation requirements.
  • Assess non-compliances identified, advising upon appropriate remedial action and allocation of action owners. Serious deficiencies which represent an unacceptable risk within Drinking Water Safety Plans should be escalated immediately.
  • Maintain records to DWI auditable standard.
  • Provide water quality technical guidance and support event teams when there is a risk to quality.

To be successful, you will have the following skills and experience:

  • Degree/HNC in a relevant scientific discipline.
  • An understanding of the current legislation, regulatory and operational requirements surrounding water quality would be advantageous.
  • Significant experience in the field of drinking water quality and/or risk assessment.
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good time management skills and the ability to prioritise in order to balance a varied and often reactive workload.
  • Strong team player.
  • Significant competent with the use of complex IT systems and standard office software.
  • Knowledge of water treatment processes and a background in water quality is ideal.
  • Travel to other sites is a requirement of the role and therefore a full driving licence is essential.
