About the role: 

Please note this will be a fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave.

The successful candidate will be leading environmental engineering at Thames Water.

This role will establish an industry leading engineering team that can create the technically intelligent client Thames Water needs to be to achieve its AMP7 ambitions and beyond. 

Focussing on their engineering discipline, the successful candidate will be providing expertise required for the following:

  • Obtaining the correct environmental requirements with the Project Definition Briefs
  • Input and continuously improve Technical Asset Standards
  • Set environmental expectations on capital schemes, carbon, biodiversity – Zero operational carbon by 2030, 10% increase in biodiversity, promoting nature based solutions
  • Provide environmental support as requested during the delivery, commissioning and hand over of assets
  • Review environmental impact of schemes and feed into a’ lessons learnt’ database 

Specific Responsibilities & Accountabilities include:

  • Lead excellence in environmental engineering across the whole Thames Water business
  • Be a ‘driver’ for ‘Excellence in Engineering’ at Thames Water and support the establishment of a ‘Centre of Excellence’
  • Knowledge sharing across the business
  • Establishing a cohesive, sustainable engineering structure from graduates to industry experts and that lead Thames Water’s engineering requirements into AMP8 and beyond.
  • Ensure we are compliant with Capex impacted environmental based regulatory requirements

To be successful you will have the following skills and experience:

  • Be a highly experienced and recognised environmental engineering leader with a number of years working within the water industry.
  • Have an understanding of the regulatory environment to achieve compliance with our engineering regulatory requirement.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills both internally and externally
  • Be collaborative and with the ability to influence senior colleagues
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent, likely in an engineering discipline with postgraduate qualification and preferably with professional chartership.
  • A passion for continuous professional development and active approach to driving diversity within our engineering function at Thames Water
  • Good budget management experience
