About the role:

We currently have an opportunity on a fixed-term contract for 6 months for a System Optimisation Analyst to work in a busy operational environment, within a high-profile team where contacts are made with multiple stakeholders across the business.

As a member of the System Optimisation Team, you will be tasked with achieving key operational and regulatory targets, vital for Thames Water to maintain and improve its performance at a time when the business faces unprecedented challenges from a Customer Service and Leakage perspective, ensuring we deliver acceptable levels of service in terms of pressure, interruptions to supply and to limited disruption during the numerous repair, maintenance and construction activities that you will be a key stakeholder in.

Through the course of the role, the candidate will gain extensive experience in relation to the operation of assets overall hydraulic system, water quality, leakage management, commissioning of assets, risk assessing activities on the network, drafting safe method statements and the management of unplanned events. 

Key Accountabilities: 

To work in conjunction with the area’s System Optimisation Engineer to manage access to the clean water hydraulic system. You will contribute to developing and implementing a sustainable longer-term strategy to run a calm system within regulatory requirements with high area reporting availability.

Your main role is to support and provide information to the Engineer, the Leakage team, and to other internal stakeholders. You will also be required to provide support during unplanned emergency events. 

What will this role involve?

  •  Monitor, investigate, and resolve pressure issues, complaints and escalations as highlighted either directly by the customer or by alarming Critical Pressure Points, understanding areas, and developing solutions to individual problems. 
  • Manage the District Metered Area (DMA) and District Meter (DM) availability issues. Explain variations against a target, including action plans to maintain and improve position. 
  • Support the System Optimisation Engineer in facilitating engineering and customer-led projects. 
  • Support the System Optimisation Engineer in the management of unplanned emergency events with a view to mitigating against adverse effects to the customer, Supply Interruptions, water quality, brand image, and levels of compensation paid to the customer due to disruption via the Customer Guarantee Scheme (CGS).
  • Support the Network Engineer and Risk Analysts in the timely completion of risk assessments required for the work impacting the clean water network, for example, the repair of leaks, the operation of assets on the network, installation/replacement of fire hydrants, and other rechargeable work.
  • Coordinate logging of pressure-managed areas and managing of information.
  • Ensure all network operations follow current signed-off Asset Management Procedures and that the Risk Assessment process is properly implemented and monitored in a timely fashion.
  • Assist with analysis of long-term network issues such as loss of pressure, low flows, area integrity, network resilience.
  • Support with formulating wider strategies for managing pressure flows, reservoir levels, and pumping regimes in conjunction with the water control centre and highlighting instances of noncompliance. 
  • Evaluate and analyse operational information, understanding data integrity difficulties, to resolve basic problems.

What skills are we looking for?

  • The successful candidate will be degree educated graduate in a suitable discipline like Engineering. Candidates with a degree in Geography or Science would also be considered
  • Working knowledge of GIS mapping software and hydraulic modelling is preferred, but not mandatory.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills are required when negotiating or liaising with different stakeholders in this role.
  • It is essential that you possess good analytical, problem solving, negotiating skills, and extreme willingness to learn and work hard to drive your career within Thames Water.
  • Full driving license and own transport are desirable, though not compulsory.
