We’re recruiting.

Thames Water is the UK’s largest water and wastewater company. We make a daily difference to millions of customers by supplying 2.7 billion litres of world-class water to around 10 million homes.

If you’re analytical, have a great way with people, and are confident making balanced risk-based decisions, we have some exciting roles coming up that might be for you!  Joining our Asset Strategy and Planning team, you will come to understand the performance of our physical assets (think pipes, pumps and treatment works) and recommend multi-million-pound investment decisions to ensure we can continue to provide life’s essential service to our customers.

Interested? Why not join our “Find out more” event on Wednesday 12th May 2021.  To register your interest, please email us at joinourfamily@thameswater.co.uk and/or you can submit your application here.

The event will give you a chance to hear from some key people within our Asset Strategy and Planning team and to learn more about working at Thames Water and gain insight into the projects we are working on now and have planned for the future.

About the roles:

Would you like the opportunity to influence and shape multi-million-pound investment decisions about the physical assets of one of the UK’s largest utility companies?  As a System Planner, you’ll help deliver the plan to manage our infrastructure and other assets, to deliver life’s essential service.  When we say ‘system’ here, we mean a series of connected assets; for example, the reservoirs, pipes, sewers, pumps and treatment works that serve a geographical community.

The purpose of your role will be to understand performance and risk, and make balanced, evidence-based recommendations on “Where is a pound best spent?” for our 5-year regulated Price Review, and longer-term system investment plans.

Working alongside and amongst a community of fellow System Planners and senior leaders, you will use data, computer systems, decision support tools, models and risk management processes to understand the current performance of the system.  You will factor in future demand, such as climate change and population growth and understand how to balance risk to make optimised investment recommendations about where best to invest.

To be successful, you’d ideally:

  • Have the ability to review and interpret complex data, draw conclusions and make recommendations and decisions.
  • Be a great communicator, able to engage with colleagues to understand their challenges and needs.
  • Have the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships, along with good influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Have knowledge of techniques such as root cause analysis and risk assessments
  • Be confident using a range of IT systems.
  • Have excellent coordination skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks at one time.

We’d love it if you have any of the following too:

  • Knowledge of the water industry, particularly water or wastewater treatment and networks.
  • Previous experience in an asset management role, for example in another utility or infrastructure business
  • A degree (or equivalent) in an analytical, asset management, engineering, scientific or environmental subject.
  • Awareness of the regulatory landscape in which we operate (OFWAT, EA, DWI).
  • Knowledge of maintenance or capital delivery schemes.
