Thames Water is going through some exciting changes and we are looking for a Contract Manager to own our £100m spend Professional Services category, with a focus on embedding good commercial practice, identifying new innovative ideas, and striving for continuous improvement within the supply chain.

The role is varied and includes working in collaboration with stakeholders across the whole of Thames Water. You will be engaging with senior stakeholders, and need to be confident at selling what is needed by tracking and defining the governing principles in what we want to do, selling this to stakeholders, and delivering on those promises.

You will be responsible for ensuring our suppliers deliver in line with their agreements by owning the relationships, monitoring their performance, and ensuring appropriate competition. Your category remit will primarily be made up of Engineering Consultancy (£40m p/a), Business Consultancy (£20m p/a), Legal Services (£8m p/a and Financial Services (£10m p/a).

This is a genuine opportunity to own and deliver a step-change in commercial management of a large and critical area of Thames Water’s spend, with significant exposure to exec level stakeholders, and where you will build an understanding of several high profile projects that leaders across Thames are spearheading.

To be successful you will have the following skills and experience:

  • Entrepreneurialism: ability to proactively seek new opportunities to create value.
  • Performance mindset: track record in delivering against stretching benefits targets
  • Holistic thinking: ability to hold the bigger picture in mind without losing sight of the detail
  • Curiosity: is able to demonstrate the desire to explore, investigate and enquire.
  • Market expertise: stays abreast of significant trends and developments and understands the risks and opportunities they present to the wider organisation
  • Strategic thinking: considers how decisions will affect the organisation’s ability to deliver its objectives
  • Sustainability-minded: has, at the very least, an awareness of the environmental, ethical and social implications of any sourcing decisions.
  • Partnering Influence and persuasion: can use a range of methods to coax others into a desired outcome or decision.
  • Relationship building: the ability to cultivate lasting, productive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Great teamwork and able to promote team spirit to help achieve shared objectives.
  • Self-starter: resilient and tenacious under pressure and has the drive to grow in the role and go beyond it.

 What’s in it for you:

Our competitive salary and package include a competitive bonus, car allowance, private healthcare, an excellent contributory pension, 26 days holiday.
