Who are we?

Thames Water is the UK’s largest water and wastewater company. We make a daily difference to our 15 million customers by supplying 2.6 billion litres of water through 32,000 km’s of pipes, to keep taps flowing and toilets flushing. We are an essential service and have operated throughout the Covid19 pandemic.

At Thames Water, every one of our actions, big and small, matters every day. Water is essential to daily life, and that means our business is always open.

What you will be doing:

We are looking for a Lead Design Assurance Engineer to support Thames Water’s Tideway Integration Group (TIG) to meet its obligation under the Tideway Interface Agreement. The role will primarily involve commenting on worksite design submissions from Tideway and their main works contractors in relation to permanent assets (such as interception chambers and air treatment units) and architecture and landscaping of newly established, public open spaces that will be handed over to Thames Water on completion of the Thames Tideway Tunnel project.

The review will need to consider the safe operation and maintenance by Thames Water whilst working collaboratively to deliver the best project outcomes.

As the Tideway Tunnel Project develops through key delivery phases the role may involve some elements of project commissioning as well as project closeout and archiving of information relating to the assets to be handed back to Thames Water.

Day to Day Responsibilities Will Be:

  • Reviewing technical submissions from Tideway and their main works contractors
  • Providing local design support to asset protection and construction teams as required
  • Assisting with the implementation of new TIG processes and procedures
  • Assisting in compiling Design Assurance reports
  • Liaising with Thames Water’s local Field Operations teams regarding the progress of the Tideway project.
  • Attendance at OpMan review and close-out meetings, including updating of TIG OpMan tracker.
  • Project close-out reporting and archiving.

We’re looking for you to:

  • Be educated to degree level in an engineering discipline
  • Have an understanding of sewerage systems design, and previous experience in the delivery of capital wastewater projects.
  • MEICA / ICA experience would be of benefit but not essential.
  • Have strong interpersonal and communications skills and the ability to work within a team environment.
  • Be someone with the ability to think on their feet, respond rapidly to urgent situations and demonstrate practical problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrable experience using Microsoft packages will be essential.

What’s in it for you!

This is an exciting opportunity for someone to get involved with the role that Thames Water is playing in delivering the Thames Tideway Tunnel, also known as the ‘Super Sewer’ which is the largest infrastructure project in the UK water industry.
